Would you switch resorts for 1 night?

Hi Everyone
Not sure if this is the place to ask this question but I thought I would start here. I have 9 nights booked at BWV. The first 8 nights I have the Boardwalk view and the last night I could only get pool/garden view. I have been on a waitlist for almost 4 months. It is Veterans Day weekend and I know a lot is going on that weekend. I just need the Sunday night. If my waitlist does not open should I try a new resort for the last night? Would you rather switch rooms in the same resort or try a different resort? I have the AP so I was thinking of taking advantage of the AP discount when it comes out. I check my waitlist everyday and I know there is still plenty of time for something to open but being such a busy weekend I don't have high hopes. If we switch resorts I thought we woul just chill at the pool for the last day.

Thanks everyone !!!!!

It's not the ideal situation but for one more night at WDW, I would do it and have. We had booked a week at BLT and our first night, we could only get SSR. We were wait listed but it never came through and the last week or so before the trip, I called each day but it never came through. I don't like switching rooms but we had little choice but it was worth it. I probably could have switched my entire stay of SSR but we really wanted BLT.

Since it is the last night of your stay, I would be inclined to just stay at BWV. You can still relax by the pool, but at least you won't have far to go when your room is ready. Who knows, maybe the other room will be ready before you have to check out from your first room. I just think it would be a hassle to change resorts for just one night at the end of a trip.

First, scan scan and scan. The BW view might pop back in. Yes it would be lovely if cancelled rooms went to waitlists. But they don't right away so scan.

For one night I would stay at BW. Two nights would change resorts. And it's a good idea to bring small bags for the last night/nights so you're all packed for home.

Also, if you're staying late enough on check out day the Deluxe dining for one night is a wonderful option. We do this at the beginning of our trip sometimes. We booked five meals last time because we share most times. Share not to save the meals but because it's so much food.

I am waiting for one night too at BWV for the 7th of NOV. In the meantime I have BLT booked because I couldn't get anything for the 7th at BW. If I could get any view at BW I rather do that then switch hotels.

With that said, check the rooms yourself, DO NOT depend on the wait list. I have received 2 of my 3 days by checking if the rooms were available and they happen to come up one after the other and I booked them myself. I check everyday to see if a room is available for the 7th, a few times a day, that is how I got the other 2 nights.

I'm now checking BLT if the last 2 nights open up there Then I'll move the last 3 nights to BLT. I just hate moving for one day. Did it once before, the Thursday never came through. Had to pack everything up and move out for one night to a different hotel, I hated it. Here we are again waiting on a Thursday:(

If you're going to be forced to switch resorts, personally I would cancel a couple more nights off the reservation and at least be able to enjoy the second resort.

I do like the boardwalk and staying in one room would be ideal. But switching for one night is about the worst possible circumstance in my mind. For a 9-night stay, I'd be content with 5 or 6 nights at the BW and then switch to another resort for the remainder.

We have done this twice..once from BW to Bc and once from BW to AK...

It was nice to try out the different resorts.

The prior poster had a great idea about doing a shorter stay at BW and moving to the other resort for longer. We usually do this as we own at the BW and BLT and its great as you would be close to 3 parks instead of just two

For a single night on the last day, I would personally stay at the same resort and take the garden/water view room. What I'd be more tempted to do, though, is give up my waitlist and change the last 2 or 3 nights to a different resort. With the longer timeframe, you'd have time to enjoy the second resort and would still have had 6 nights at BW. After having been at an Epcot resort for a week, I'd be very tempted to find a few nights at BLT or VWL to get in some dedicated Magic Kingdom time.

Yes, I know you can do all parks from any resort. We just tend to gravitate into the World Showcase much more frequently when we're at BCV/BWV, and Magic Kingdom when we're at BLT/VWL.

That is a great idea about switching resorts for the last 2 nights instead of 1 night. I would love to stay at Grand Floridian and thought that if I could get a great price with the AP discount than maybe I would switch. I also checked AKV (Jambo) my other favorite resort and of course no availability for the last 2 nights in a savannah room. I think that for 1 night I will just stay at the BWV but if I can get 2 nights somewhere else then I will switch. I can't believe how difficult it is to get a room for the Sunday night. Just means it is going to be a VERY busy weekend in the world!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I am now thinking of doing this. Stay at BWV for 6 nights then another resort for the last 2 nights. Great idea !!!!:banana:
Now to try and find another resort!!!!

normally, we wouldn't....but sometimes life doesn't work out perfectly.
DD & i are going to BWVs in may: 1st night in a SV studio, and the balance in a BW view (our plans changed due to very limited and expensive flights).

to make lemonade :), i booked the DDP for the SV night only, and we will use the credits for fantasmic dinner that eve, and cafe tangerine for dinner the next night - plus will have a snack & refillable mugs (we have the TIW, but it's not good on the fantasmic package). we wouldn't want the DDP for the entire trip, so it works out well for us :thumbsup2

we will pick up our rental car on the 2nd day, so money saved there.

i doubt we would change resorts for one night, but just changing rooms gave us options we're happy with.

I actually have the same issue except it's on arrival. I have BWV boardwalk view Nov 11 to 16. I want to come in on Nov 10 so that I can be there for the last 2 days of F & W. At first there were no studios for Nov 10 so I waitlisted boardwalk view. Then I kept checking and a pool/garden opened up. So I booked that and kept the waitlist. I'd rather just change rooms in the hotel than move to a new hotel. I'm hoping the waitlist will come through.

I have switched rooms for 1 more night both ways - resort to resort and within the same resort. Sometimes within resort is easier and several times for me the front desk staff has linked the reservations so I haven't had to move rooms (lots of pixie dust on those trips). Sometimes they have the room available as a cash basis but it hasn't been booked by CR so they've let me have it.

Talking to the front desk staff to find out if there is any way not to move is not something you can do until you get there.

Also, sometimes upon check-in if you're waitlisted and the waitlist hasn't come through I've mentioned that I had the room waitlisted and the staff has checked and given me the room, I've even checked every day I'm there to see if it has opened up. The most accurate count of room availability in a given resort is the front desk (IMO) and I believe that most resort CM's are very willing to check for a guest because they know alot of times the resort is a large part of your vacation.

Good luck - I hope you get what you need.

Having a little trouble too. Booked about a week after the 7 month window opened up, and tried to get BWV-STD-STUDIO for September 9th to 14th, and I couldn't get standard view for Thursday the 12th, I do have garden/pool for that night. Hoping to not have 3 check ins in 5 nights at the same resort! Maybe I will switch the last night to pool/garden view just to be done with making myself nuts checking every day!

If you change resorts for the last day, remember that you can still hang out at the pool of the original resort on the day of checkout. So if you love Luna but are moving elsewhere, just park your bags with Bell Services (either keeping them there, or having them sent on to the new resort), have a day bag, and laze at Luna until you're ready to go to the new resort. Then laze at the pool there, too. :) It's the one lovely thing about moving resorts, that you have your choice of the pool (without having to think about if it's a blackout date for DVC pool hopping, etc)

But I would probably just stay at the same resort (I've done some serious split stays, and I've done it both well and poorly and feel like I've learned something from the experiences); have Bell Services snag your bags, do the checkin process for the new room, go to the pool. Whenever you're ready to go to the room (once it's ready), arrange for luggage to be delivered, and go to the new room.

The nice thing about such a move is that it gets you packed and almost entirely ready to leave the next day, with just that day's stuff out.

. . . Would you rather switch rooms in the same resort or try a different resort?

I'm in the same boat as you are for a trip in September. The first night I want is in a different resort from the next four nights (I am waitlisted, though). If I were you, I would to stay in the same resort, even with a different view category. In my situation, I will not. My first night is in a totally separate resort.

I agree, I would not want to end my trip by switching resorts for just one night. We recently stayed five nights at one resort and then switched for two nights. I had considered staying just one night at the second resort, but was so glad I decided to make it two nights.

I must be the crazy one...the first time it was the first night at BLT and then switched to OKW for the next 7 nights...next time, we were at BCV for 6 nights and the last night at BLT...and next month we are staying 7 nights at BCV and the last night at BLT...get the theme??? It's a great way to cap off or start off your trip...pack up, owners locker goes when we check out of the long stay...and pack an overnight...and ENJOY !!!

Since we drive to WDW, moving for the last night wouldn't be a problem for us. We'd just pack the car up after leaving our first resort and only take one bag in to the resort we checked into for the last night. Although, I probably would be more inclined to move with 2 nights left in my stay!

Did it one time for one night dueto lack of availability the first night we were there. Easier the first night because we really did not unpack.

For the last night, I would stay in the same resort just to make it easier than rechecking into a new resort
