Would you squeeze in a Memorial Day Weekend visit?

We are headed to San Diego to visit friends Memorial Day weekend...and then my husband says "you know we are going to drive right past Disneyland!"

I was trying to block that out of my mind! So I was pricing it out and it wouldn't cost us too much more to stop at the DLR for 2 days and skip 2 of our SD days. Would you do it? We will have a 7 month old with us (and that would make this his first trip). We would be there the Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend. Do you think it will be too crazy crowded with Cars Land about to open too?

We already have a "real" DLR trip planned for November, and we have been to San Diego many many times...but I feel like maybe I should just settle for some beach/zoo time this trip and not drag our DS to a crowded park weekend...?

I think you should stop and go to DL. While it will be crowded so will the beach and zoo. There is nothing to gain by going to one or the other.

See the park in its classic state before your holiday visit.

What days would you be at DL?

Sunday/Monday

Skiingfast- Good point it might be nice to see the park in classic decor! Our last few trips have been fall or Christmas time, so it's been a while.

Maybe the parks won't be as crowded as I am picturing because Carsland is projected to open that following weekend, correct? So maybe some guests will put their trip off a week?

Im kind of wondering the same thing. We are arriving in Anaheim on memorial day and staying that whole week. Our original plan was to go to the parks Tues, Wed, Thurs with mon and Friday being travel days. But as I was going over all the things we want to do this trip I decided to see how much it would be to change my 3 day park hopper to 4 day park hopper and the difference was a total of 58 bucks (thats for 2 adults and one child) so I upgraded. Now we are trying to decide if we want to get there earlier on Memorial day and go that day or go on Friday and then have to drive back to Sac after spending the day at the parks (we would probably leave late afternoon early eavening if we did this).

I think the parks will be packed on Monday which is the only reason I am against going that day but it may be a good day to do BBB and AG princess lunch as well as some of the shows we want to see.

But if I were in your situation I would go and do as much as I can. I wouldnt worry as much about crowds if I knew I was coming back soon.

We have done Memorial Day weekend in the past and really enjoyed it. It was definitely less busy than some of the other holiday weekends we have done. I would think Carsland wouldn't really add to crowds since it's not expected to be open yet. In fact, I'm guessing those with scheduling flexibility but who don't go frequently would put off a DLR trip to wait for Carsland rather than go out of their way to plan their trip for before it's open.

There is not known date when Cars Land will open, only that it will open in June.

Memorial Day Weekend is not super busy, it's just busy like a regular weekend but is 3 days long instead of 2. The weekdays after it have very normal light crowds.

While it's very possibly that Cars Land may have previews going on, that won't really effect crowds, even if it has a soft opening for everyone. It may make it busy right at Cars Land, or extra people moving from DL to DCA and into the gates of DCA to the entrance to Cars Land, it will have onyl a minor hard to notice effect on other attractions.

I've been at DL on Memorial Day weekend. It was busy, but not stupid busy. IASW had an obnoxiously long wait to ride, but FP rides didn't have long wait times. It wasn't as bad at Memorial Day as it was at New Year's the year we went.

I agree that the beaches will be crowded too. It would be more fun to be in the sun and doing something, at Disneyland, than lying on the beach working on a tan/sun burn.

We've been on Memorial Day and it's not crowded at all. Most people head for home on Memorial Day so you miss much of the weekend crowds. Sunday will probably be a bit busier but I'd definitely do it!

Also, since you have a November trip planned as well you may want to consider AP's (if you don't have them already), as a CA resident you will qualify for the monthly payment plan and having an AP is usually cheaper than buying tickets twice in one year. Run the numbers, see if it would benefit you.

Just putting this out there... Saturday, May 26 is the 100 years of Girl Scouts/Disneyland Bridging Event at DL. It's going to be a huge event and will no doubt increase the crowd levels that weekend.

What?!? Okay I am jealous, when I was a girl scout we made "sit-upons" and God's eyes out of sticks and yarn, haha.

Okay I'll have to decide soon and I keep going back and forth... if I end up going I'll let you guys know how the crowds are.

I wouldn't worry about the Girl Scout event. It's not giant, and will only add a bit to attendance on days when there are already a lot of people there.
