I was watching "Kell on Earth" the other night. They were talking about how the economy is hurting the fashion industry because no one is willing to spend $2000 on a pair of pants anymore.

Do people really spend $2000 on a pair of pants?

Are they pants made of gold?

Not in my world..I could win 10 million from publishers clearing house & would still love Wal~Mart & flea markets :surfweb:

If a pair of jeans fit me really well, I will spend quite a bit. $2000 is a little much though, I don't care what their made out of.

HOLY CRAP

I LOVE my expensive well made clothes and shoes however I do not pay retail for anything!! in fact I buy most of my stuff at second hand stores. you just buy what is in and if it look new. I won't buy unless I know what I'm buying and if it is worth it. in fact I have gotten lots of compliments on my clothes and shoes and they all want to know where I bought my stuff. I normally tell them what ever the label says such as aeropstale, if the label says that then that is where I bought it. I also research where some brands are sold so i know what to say LOL...

:scared1: Not even if I had all the money in the world! :lmao:
It just amazes me how out of touch with reality people are $2k? That's a nice long trip to WDW during F&W! :rotfl:

Not unless I really really love them and they come with at least $1880 cash inside the pocket. :lmao:

I googled "$2000 pair of pants" just to see what a $2000 pair of pants would look like.

My first hit was an article about Bernie Madoff. They were interviewing a clothing shop owner in Palm Beach. Bernie Madoff came in and found a $2000 pair of cashmere pants he liked. They didn't have his size and had to order it. By the time the pants came in, he had been arrested. So they have Bernie Madoff's $2000 pants there on the rack. The store owner tried to charge it to Madoff's credit card, but the card had already been closed.

I guess I got my answer as to who would pay that. :scared1: Let's face it, pants are 3 yards of fabric used to cover your butt. If you're paying $2000, someone's either playing off your vanity or...I don't know what.

If I was really wealthy (like billionaire) my goal would be to spend it all before I die since I can't take it with me so I may blow it on stuff like pants. Since I am no where near that level, and don't see any way I ever will be, I will not be spending $2,000 or even $200 on pants.

My limit is about $150. I do have a pair of jeans that cost $140 I got at Nordstrom 2 years ago. I got a bonus from work and they looked REALLY good on me so why not? I was going to spend $300 regardless, I decided, but they were out of the 7.5 sized Nike Shox I wanted so (naturally, lol) I had to spend the money on something else.

On clothing of any kind, the only things I could see myself spending $2000+ on is either a handbag/purse, shoes or a coat. And that would only be if I was wealthy enough that $2000 wouldn't hurt at all.

I've decided, this will happen soon too, that I am going to get a Burberry trench coat and those run $800-$4000... the one I want is currently $1395.

I think its all relative really. For some people, 300.00 for jeans sounds outrageous, and for others 300.00 is pocket change. :confused3

Wow! Never in a million years! Even if I had that kind of money I would feel bad spending so much of jeans when there are needy people in this world!

I bought a pair of jeans that were $60 and it took me 2 trips to the store to convince myself to get them! They were sooo cute and fit me perfect. I'm just used to Gap or Old Navy jeans that run in the $30's.

I, along with everyone else on the dis, would never spend that amount on a pair of pants, however, the show Kell on Earth deals with the "high fashion" world of NYC. Yes, people in that world really do (or did ;)) spend that much.

Maybe.

If I were a billionaire, who did nothing to actually earn my $ (ie: won it in the Lottery, etc.)

And if they were, say, perfect fitting, vintage, and hand-embroidered with a design of my choice.

I have never spent more that $50 for a pair of jeans. And that was a huge splurge (back when Calvin Kleins first came out.) Now my jean budget is under $20 per pair. I don't think I could be comfortable in a $2000 pair of jeans even if I suddenly came into millions of dollars. I'm not used to buying expensive clothing, so I don't think I could get used to it.

But.............I sure would love to book an incredible 2 week trip to the Poly. I could get used to that easily.

I guess I'm pretty cheap - my jaw drops when I see a price tag of $49.95 on a pair of jeans! Bring that down to at least $25 and we'll talk...

I also rarely pay more than $12 for shirts
