I was at a meeting yesterday where the leader used a Power Point presentation. This person didn't create the slides, I don't know if they wrote the text. At one point, a slide referred to taking action to sharply retain the curiousity of the listener. Specifically, the phrase was, "... to peak their interest."

This presentation is going to be used repeatedly over several months. Would you say something to the coordinator?

I think it would be appreciated for you to point out the mistake.

I would say something, but to the right person- the person who has the power to make a spelling correction (sounds like this is a "canned" type of presentation). I've been accused of being "critical", but I can't let spelling and/or grammar errors go by, especially if they are going to be seen by a large number of people.

There isn't anything wrong with the phrase.

The only possible harping point, would be that you prefer "pique". I would tell you to grab a dictionary.

Check your dictionary - peak and pique do not have the same meaning. Nor, of course, does peek, lol.

Well, what I prefer isn't the issue; it's what the correct word would be. I did check the dictionary. The only verb usage of peak is nautical-related.

I wouldn't do it. I've never known anyone who likes being told they have made a mistake, although I have known many people who enjoy pointing them out. Just my opinion, do what you feel comfortable with OP.

Yup--I'd let the speaker know. Sometimes an error just sneaks into a presentation and makes the whole thing look stupid. Plus, you have to wonder how much of the message will get lost if the audience members wind up thinking about the typos!

I would tell them but only after making a point of telling them how much I enjoyed their presentation. Then I would mention how easy it is to have something slip through and that I noticed "whatever" in the presentation. I would probably say that I've had things like that happen and know that I would want to know before I showed it to more people (and I actually would).
Then I would thank them for the presentation. :)

Exactly this:thumbsup2
