Would you recommend Kona Cafe?

Trying to get some input for next week. We were thinking of doing Kona Cafe for dinner before the Polynesian Meet for GKTW on Dec 8. Anyone recommend it? Anyone not?

I'd totally recommend it. We had a great experience on our last trip (Jan 2011). DH ordered off the menu and loved it (I am totally blanking on what he ordered), but since I have dietary issues I asked a chef to come out. This was the only on-property restaurant we ate at all week where they didn't just augment an already existing dish. He made me a totally different, but amazingly tasty, almost fat-free dinner. I'd go to Kona in a heart beat!

I love it there! The sushi is also really good and fresh. If you can't get a reservation, then just go to the Kona Sushi Bar next door. You can order off of the full Kona menu at the sushi bar.

It's a must-do for our family as well. We have been for lunch and dinner and never regretted it. Better food and calmer atmosphere than 'Ohana. We plan to go for breakfast on our next trip.

I love it also. I will often get the Sticky Wings Appetizer (which includes a salad) as my main course.

We keep wanting to love Kona, but find the restaurant to be kind of boring and dirty. We have been back several times over the past few months and each time hope for something better. The last time we had a 9:15pm dinner seating and the floor was so dirty around our area we asked to be moved. The area they moved us to wasn't that much better.
We do enjoy the sushi.

I've been to Kona Cafe for both breakfast and dinner. I really enjoyed both meals there and would recommend it. :thumbsup2

I have had breakfast and dinner at Kona Cafe. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. I would happily eat there again. In fact, I may go next week. :goodvibes

I'm going to sway against the norm here and say that we won't be going back any time soon. We love the atmosphere at the Poly, but Kona Cafe is just so boring, IMO. It looks like a standard hotel diner, the food is just OK, and the service has been poor every time we've been. We've tried it at different times of the day, and different times of the year, but it has never been a good experience for us. I just don't see where people are finding the spark in this restaurant because it has never shone for us. :confused3

I would much rather eat at Captain Cook's for a less expensive meal (they have super yummy wok-fried chips), grab a Dole Whip for dessert, and all with the view of the lagoon & the castle off in the distance. (Kona doesn't even offer a good view!)

We love Kona Cafe! I prefer it for breakfast, but lunch and dinner are very good as well. They have an Asian noodle dish that is fantastic.

Last time I was there, we sat at the sushi bar as we didn't have a reservation and the wait was over an hour. They will serve regular menu items at the sushi bar, but you may have to remind your server to bring a menu.

I believe I had a walnut crusted chicken breast with a citrus glaze. It was fantastic! The sushi is fresh and very good.

Don't forget to stop in Captain Cook's to get a Dole Whip for dessert! ;)

I have had dinner there once and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere wasn't perfect but I just like being in the Poly so I thought it was great. Plus, we timed it to walk to the beach afterwards and watch the fireworks. It was a wonderful way to get our vacation started that year.

I ate there in January with my DH and grandparents. My grandfather thought it was just okay, but he is very picky! The rest of us enjoyed our food. It was nothing spectacular that would make me eat there again if I wasn't staying at the Poly, but the food and service were good.

I enjoy Kona's. It has good sushi and the regular meals are good as well.

Do it you might like it.

I've had the noodle dish it is very good. If you have a peanut allergy it might not be for you or you can ask them to remove it.

We also like the Pot stickers and the Kona Club that served at lunch.

Kona is ok for dinner. We don't love it but we'd go back. Service our one dinner was spotty at best and my wife's chocolate lava cake came out still partially frozen and cold. It must have been a dormant volcano. Breakfast is great, however.

Kona is OK for lunch and dinner, but I prefer it for breakfast. The press coffee is absolutely worth the price, not the usual Disney Nescafe drek.

About 3 weeks ago we had the best late breakfast at Kona Cafe.
We were so glad to just get a table as walk-ins.

Everything was delicious, the eggs, pancakes, french toast sausages, bacon.
Some of the best breakfast potatoes on site at Disney as well.
The food was quite superior to that of the typical Disney breakfast or buffet location.

The pressed pot coffee was very good, I actually enjoyed this style coffee more than the pressed pot coffee I had earlier in the week at the Yachtsmen Steakhouse.

The service was wonderful, our server was so much fun to chat with.

If we ever stay again at a monorail resort, this will definitely be our favorite choice for a fun, non character breakfast place. I also think this is a great place to visit for breakfast, just before entering into the Magic Kingdom Park.

With the Tables In Wonderland card discount, this breakfast was actually priced very well.

We took our time enjoying a relaxing delicious late morning breakfast at the Kona Cafe, and never felt rushed, and the restaurant was not excessively loud, making this a great escape to relax and unwind during our vacation.

Kona is the one restaurant we go to every trip - no matter where we stay. I love it for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

We enjoyed it. As pps said, it is nothing fancynor over-themed, but is a nice place to enjoy meal. The food was pretty good, although our server acted as though she couldn't wait to leave.

We usually stay at the Poly and dine at least once at Kona. We have always had a great experience and their pork chop dish is my favorite! They also have some delicious dessert choices that we didn't find elsewhere. I would highly recommend an ADR.
