Would you recommend a Disney wedding?

We have fallen in love with the idea of getting married at Disney next year but we feel like it may be much more impractical than originally thought. We have a huge guest list already and we are scared to leave people out if we get married down there. We have many friends that will be unable to travel - either for the cost or other reasons. We know that a certain amount of rooms must be booked in order to have a wedding there and we are nervous about demanding that cost to our guests. Does anyone have any suggestions, opinions, words of advice/sanity for us? We just think that it would be the most magical place to get married and to begin our life together!!

I was in the same boat as you. My guest list is huge and there were some family we know would not be able to attend like my grandmother. We decided to go for it because its what we wanted to do, not what others wanted, after all its your wedding. You will be surprised, once people find out its in Disney they want to go. I am giving my friends and family enough time ahead to plan for next year. I was worried about the room block but already before my Save the Dates go out I already have 70 people going. My guest list is about 250 people, now I am worried too many people will want to go! I am hoping its around 100. I am having an after party once we get back to celebrate with the people who can't make it. Do what makes you happy.

I may be biased....but I say if its what you've always dreamed of...both of you...and when you envision your day its in Disney: go for it. I have not had my wedding yet but I could not imagine it anywhere else and to will be perfec for us. Even with the people who are not attending. You will be surprised how many people will make vacations out of it.

To answer your question simply...YES!!!

Now, the guest list issue is tough.

You have two choices with Disney:

An Intimate wedding only allows you 20 guests (total, including you and your DH2B).

A Custom wedding will allow you to invite pretty much whoever you want...but those do cost a little more! ;)

I agree with Luvndisney and Malibelle...you might be surprised at how many guests will say "Yes!"

There is another option...you can have a "smallish" Disney wedding...and have a larger reception at home afterwards. A lot of "destination" brides choose to do it this way. They get the wedding of their dreams, and allow their families to share a special time with them.

You can also do a "bigger" wedding at home...then go to Disney for a very intimate "vow renewal". This is sort of what we did. We were legally married here at home, with my family present, at the local JOP. Three days later we were on our way to Disney for our "real" wedding at Sea Breeze Point. It was just us and it was just beautiful.

Bottom line...it is YOUR wedding...and no matter what you do, you will not please everyone. There is no better place in the world to get married than Disney...of course, I could be biased! ;)

Good luck with your decision!!

This is the best site! Thank you so much for all of your encouraging words! We truely appreciate it! We still aren't positive what we will do but hearing your stories really helps!

Is it difficult to do the planning from a distance? How early do you need to contact a planner at Disney?

I started planning my intimate wedding about 5 months before our date. Disney can put things together pretty quickly...but most brides choose to get in touch with Disney 1 year in advance. Disney won't do much of anything before that anyway.

You can easily plan from a distance. The Disney wedding website is pretty good with pictures and stuff...and then there's us! :teeth: Most of us can show you different pictures of things we did or had and that will help you make some decisions too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We will definately keep you all posted on our decision! We appreciate all of the support here! This is truely the best site ever! :yay:

I am doing the intimate as I don't think I can handel the stress of a huge wedding as I already have a million and other things going. When we get home is when we will do a HUGE Celebration with the people who can't go to the wedding. Disney Weddings are truely a dream come true.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

yes! we wouldnt change a thing about our wedding day & trip. yes its trying at times with all the planning from out of state but in the end it all came together beautifully. one of things we did was we kept the guest list small just 50 of our close family & loved ones attended & we provided their rooms. its your wedding day do what makes you happy. send save the dates, a newsletter or create a website to keep guests informed so they have time & info to plan. best of luck with your plans!

I would definately do what you want for THE 2 OF YOU. It is YOUR day! :) I got married in 97 @ WDW. We did the intimate. Only had my parents and my sister come down. I didn't want many people there, but that is just me. Disney did an incredible job. it was truly incredible. Everything was so perfect!! We traveled all over the country for our jobs so we were going to be planning a wedding from out of state no matter what so it was actually easier w/Disney. They sent me a package, I filled out 3 sheets of paper answering questions showing exactly what I wanted and that was about IT! Very easy!! Unfortunately it was to the wrong man...so my 2nd and LAST time around...he said no way to Disney wedding again...so we're going to get married on the beach... but we're staying @ WDW for 10 nights before/during/after the wedding. I can drive an hour and get married on the beach...at least we're still at disney for the most part! Good luck and I am sure you will not regret it if you do have your wedding @ disney. I still can't believe how perfect everything was. we had dinner @ V&A that night...wow!
