Would you pay $690,000 for a 1975 Escort?

I wouldn't pay that much for any car, even if Jesus himself had sat in it.

On the other hand, I have had friends that have had Ford Escorts and loved them!!! They claim it was the best car they ever owned. Some still own Ford Escorts, even though they haven't been made in a few years.

To each his own I guess.

If God wanted me to have an escort, I think he would give it to me for free. :rotfl:

Seriously, why pay that much for a car just because of who sat in it? I don't get that stuff. :confused3

Well, we already know that Jesus didn't drive an Escort. He drove an Accord. In the Gospel according to St John, Christ tells the people, "For I did not speak of my own Accord." Later, though, the same gospel says, "The Apostles were in one Accord" - a statement that seems to confirm the fact that they followed Jesus's example in their choice of automobile. :rotfl:

It's not the same Escort that was sold here it was actually a very good car in Europe. Only the name is the same. Still not worth the money no matter who drove it.

My pastor told us this morning that God liked motorcycles, as the Bible talks about Triumph all the time (brand of motorcycles for those who do not know). :rotfl:

All I really wanted to know is if the car ever had those fuzzy dice hanging or if it had a "Honk if You Love Jesus" bumper sticker on it.

:rotfl:

And did he actually carry a licence that said, "Pope John Paul II"?? Its just such a funny thought to me!

Just have to say I drove an Escort for years and never had problems with it. I would take one in a heartbeat over the piece of junk Voyager I drive now.

But I would never pay that much for it, no matter who drove it! That's ridiculous.

Absolutely not! Even if I had a billion dollars I wouldn't spend it on something so ridiculous.

Wouldn't pay that much, but my parents had an Escort and it was a great car.

Doesn't the guy have a car museum?? He was adding to his collection of unusual vehicals... would I spend that much??? No way! I don't have it to begin with. But this guy has a dream to save pieces of history... perhaps insignificant pieces... but history just the same. Some how he's figured out how to get his dream... and though it's not my dream or your dream... it is his. So more power to him.

That said... it would be reasonable to thing that even JP II would say that much $ could be spent on a more redeeming a purchase. Too bad we can't ask him!

Followed closely by the Chevy Vega and The Chevy Corvair - the car that catapulted Ralph Nader to fame.

I heard he had a Darwin fish on the bumper! ;)

Collectors of all kinds will sometimes spend whatever is necessary to get what they want. Obviously, this car collector wanted this car once driven by the Pope and he was willing to pay $690,000 for it. IMO, this is no different than somebody paying $1,000,000 for a baseball, $5,000,000 for a painting, or $10,000,000 for a "famous" house. More power to them!

Also, IMO, the Escort doesn't even rank in the top 10 of worst cars. For example, does anybody remember the AMC Pacer, Chevy Vega, Ford Pinto, or the Yugo GV? Those things were deathtraps.
