Would you order your own Bday cake?

Call me silly - but the fact is I would like a cake for my birthday. We will be in Disney and I want a cake. :) LOL.

My DH is a great guy - but this stuff is 100, no 1000% NOT his forte. He just doesn't think this stuff is a huge deal, it slips off his radar after having it mentioned, like five seconds later, and to a degree I can understand - this is not something everyone feels important.

The only holiday he really 'does' well is Christmas (after years of working with him on this. LOL)

On my Birthday we are going to Tusker House for Breakfast at 8:05 a.m., then Cali Grill for dinner.

I am swaying towards having birthday cake at that early - unGodly hour for cake at breakie because my 5-year-old will be there and we are doing CG alone. (And hey, it is my birthday AND Disney - so cake is allowed at every meal!!) We are doing CS for lunch.

I also KNOW she will notice if I don't have cake. She was quite perturbed (without any prompting from me) at Valentine's Day when she and Daddy got cards, but Daddy somehow missed getting one for me. Oooops!

I would do it without much guilt if I were solely doing it for "Her", but really I DO want a cake. LOL! Plus, I am the only one of us so lucky that my birthday is in October which is the month we want to go - so in reality I AM already too blessed to be stressed about this and feel maybe a little greedy.

It would mean more if DH did do it, but I don't want to be disappointed if he doesn't - or hear my DD go on about it... maybe she won't, she might be distracted considering where we are. It doesn't have to be something fabulous - although that would be great since I make specialty cakes for friends and family (do you see a running theme about how he and I differ in this aspect? LOL) The fact that I make these cakes, also alerts to DD about when cake is 'needed.'

So, should I go ahead and order one - or not so subtly make sure the CAKE HOTLINE is pointedly handed to him... thing is I hate asking him/reminding him - makes me feel foolish and small.

But, it doesn't stop the fact that I would really like one or that I think birthday celebrations are important (even at my young :rolleyes1 age.)

So, would you order your own cake and be done with it?

If you want a cake, order it. Sometimes the only way to get what you want is do it yourself. Not sure I can tell what would be wrong with that unless it's a cost issue.

Not sure if I would order a cake to eat at breakfast. any chance you could order one at the Boardwalk or someplace and get it so you could have it at lunch?

I'd just ask DH if he minded if I made the cake ordering phone call for him. He'll agree, and then you are officially calling on his behalf, so you can pretend like he ordered it.

Mine wouldn't even know that you could order a cake if I didn't tell him...but even if he knew about it, I wouldn't leave it up to him to call and order it. I would just do it and make him pay for it :rotfl2:

LOL... Well looks like I am not alone. No, it is not a cost issue at all. BUT I think that's a GREAT idea to make him pay for it! LOL.

That's our Animal Kingdom day, and why we're kinda forgoing lunch - not too much there to choose from, and having the brunch, I think we'll probably be pretty full by then... not to mention needing to leave room for CG! Mmmmm.

No. DH won't do stuff like that. We are going for my bday and I asked DH to make ressies for dinner and stuff like that. He told me to tell him where I wanted to go and do and he would call.

Umm, I'd order it even if my 5 yo weren't there. Of course, I'd act all surprised when it arrived at the table, so the waitstaff didn't think I was an egomaniac. In which case, I'd probably order it under DH's name, with his CC.

This is how it works for us too.

Not sure how customized the cake options are at AK ... will you be fine with the standard podium cake? You can get a wonderful custom cake at CG and take the leftovers back home to your DD. Also, I have no idea where you are staying but you might want to consider getting a cake delivered to your room if you want both a customized cake and your DD to enjoy the blowing-out-candles experience.

Well, for a big anniversary once I ordered flowers to be delivered to our hotel room from the concierge since I KNEW DH wouldn't even think of it. They were delivered before we left for dinner to HIM on our anniversary from me.

If you want a B'day cake go for it!

As long as it has my name and Happy Birthday on it - I'm all good! LOL!

My dream would be to have a REALLY cool cake :worship: - but I wouldn't order that for myself... that whole "egomaniac" avoidance thing... and I really don't think he would ever do it.

I love cakes and learn how to make them do fondant decorating, figures etc have a whole whackadoodle of cake tools - but something says a super cool fondant cakes are only in my future when I make them for someone else. :thumbsup2

He's getting off pretty easy this year - as just being at Disney is just the best birthday wish ever (now that I've had my little girl!) I'm paying for the trip in its entirety and just got him the RPDE Rookie Experience for his birthday (obviously to be used when we get there!)

You'd think a $25 cake wouldn't be a problem... and if I pressed it, I'm sure he'd call and arrange it - he's not an ogre... just not 'occasion-minded'. LOL.

Darn it all though - I want a cake... waaahhh! Poor me - I am so deprived. Joking -I feel kinda petty wanting this because in reality - How LUCKY am I! Seriously - very lucky. Very blessed. :flower3:

There have been bdays where I have baked my own cake. So yes, I would order my own cake.

But I wouldn't want to walk around AK with cake for the rest of the day. Depending on where you are staying you might be able to get a cake for your room that you could have with your daughter before you go to dinner.

Yes definitely. At home there is this bakery that makes the best chocolate fudge cakes. I usually order a bigger size by phone and pick up my own cake. Its great i have leftovers to freeze for another time. Doesnt bother me to do that kind of stuff especially if it is so worth it with the best cake ever.

I'd probably be more likely to share it with the table next to us or leave it. We don't need to eat several pieces of cake ourselves... we are on the DxDP, so we should be pretty desserted out!

Maybe have someone from the staff cut it and take it out back so if anyone who works there wants some it wouldn't be too weird.

For me it's more about the 'tradition' and ritual of cake, and the slight embarassed fun you feel than it is about the actual cake.

Too funny! I'm in the same boat. My DH decided that I need to be at Disney World (my favorite place in the world) for my 50th, but there's no way he'd think of ordering a cake since I'm sure he has NO idea you can even do that. I have a wedding and specialty cake business and I still want a birthday cake of my own on the big day. Tell you what, I'll order one for you and you can order mine....:lmao:

So I think I would give my DH the instructions to do it and tell him how important it is to me.... and your DD to see him do it for you. I mean, if she is paying attention to whether you are getting cake and not getting a valentine card.. maybe he should be thinking about that and step up :confused3

Sorry..but showing her that he values you and wants to make you happy isn't a bad thing...even if he's not occasion minded

Ciera - LOL - that might be not a bad idea.

Disneyfos - YOU are exactly right... and I agree, I think I should do that first before ordering my own. :) He does show me and step up in other ways though (like surprising me with a lakefront lot for a cottage) :)

I can't help it though - I just wanna cake. LOL

Ahhhh! But the lakefront lot is an investment and something within his realm! *LOL*

Gotta love the men in our lives--most of the time! :)
