Would you like your pennies back?

So, if you go to this same restaurant and are a couple pennies short, are they going to say, that's ok, it's just a couple pennies?

Yes, I want my pennies back -- I might need them later.

I want my pennies back too. All of the change I have at the end of the day goes in my Disney trip bank. Those pennies really do add up.

The sister of a friend of mine married quite "well" I gues you could say. He is a millionare.

they went to dinner and on the way out one person in the group threw his pennies on the sidewalk... guess who stopped, went back, and picked them up?

the last time DW and I cashed in out change jar, it totaled over $600!!! (it is a big jar... hehehe)
Mikeeee

Me, either. Around here I'm noticing that the employees are often retirement age people who can't afford to retire, thanks to lay-offs and the recession.

I'm not a fan of the penny but I certainly expect to be given all of my change!

Not to pick on you, but this always irritates me when people assume that any older person who is working is doing so because they can't afford to retire. Many are probably doing so because they would be bored at home. My dad and stepmother both started working again after retirement simply because they didn't have anything better to do and felt lost after working their whole lives. They wanted to be out of the house and around people, and neither of them were the traveling or senior citizen group kind of people.

I don't have anything to say except I had to read the title of your post twice...I did not read "pennies" the first time around....:scared1::lmao:

It was a hilarious thread full of TRUE stories where so many of us have experienced times at McDonalds drive thrus where you order: 3 cheeseburgers, 2 large fries, 2 shakes, one McNuggets. What you get is: 2 hamburgers, 2 small fries, 2 large Cokes, one McNuggets with only 4 nuggets instead because they couldn't count to 6. :sad2: :headache: :headache: :headache:

Do you realize that trying to hear well on a drive through headset is very, very hard to do? You hear the wind whipping around, everything sounds muffled and kid of garbled unless you park exactly level with the speaker and enunciate very clearly and loudly. And it really doesn't help if you're yelling at the kids, having another conversation with others in the car or are carrying on a cell phone conversation at the same time. Add to that, you're trying to fix drinks for other orders, make change and cash out the order at the window at the same time, respond to their requests, hand out food and be friendly..ALL AT THE SAME TIME??!!!:headache:

Now, I understand that their are poople who work at fast food places that do fit the stereotype. Don't care, rude, unfriendly, can't count back change, nor care to learn. I get it, I freally do. But as a former emplyee fo fast food places, and a drive thru employee for breakfast and lunch at Chick Fil A and Wendy's, I don't see the humor in your joke.:confused3

And the reason people get so PC and angry at your comments is they either worked in a fast food restaurant, or knows someone who does. Also because people, or the public, have this preconceived attitude or ide of who works in a fast food place, and treat US, the employees, acccordingly. Just because I'm taking your order doesn't mean I can't count, that I'm uneducated or that you're better than me. And it doesn't mean you can talk to me in any way you choose. :mad:I took pride in doing my job well, no matter what it was. I took as much care making a burger, taking an order at the window as I did when I made flight reservations for an airline, unloaded trucks at a warehouse, or when preparing party trays for a very large corporation when I managed a Subway. :)

Well, then my remark doesn't apply to them. . . does it? :scratchin

Not to me.

And back to the original topic...I have no idea why you wouldn't get your pennies. Unless the manager didn't go to the bank and they were running low.:confused3:confused3 I want my pennies back, too.:thumbsup2

You were at a drive thru fast food. They barely know how to count to five. Requiring them to count pennies, "One. . . two. . . umm. . . I think three  . . . " is a real strain for their brains. :p

This is rude.

Many of those kids are great students working to get through school.

Yea, like my daughter who is in honor's classes and got into all the schools she applied to. Not funny, just insulting to hard working people, some who just want to feed their families.

I see you are not from the U.S. Perhaps your experiences in fast food restaurants are different than ours. There was a great thread that was titled something like, "Oh no... You couldn't be that stupid!" but the search didn't bring it up. Maybe someone else has it bookmarked. :teacher: It was like 15 pages.

I still don't find the humor of insulting people who are trying to make a living.

It doesn't matter where you spend your money, from Saks to McDonalds, people of ALL ages can no longer count change back, much less figure out the change to give a customer. The reason why? The registers do the work, no one needs to think about it. Lack of intelligence has nothing to do with it.

As for me I like getting my pennies back.
That is pretty much exactly the problem these days! I used to work at a MALL fast-food joint - there were lots of really rude people who ate here, but also some dim bulbs who worked there! These folks more often than not would not know how to make change if the little register didn't tell them how much to give back! And if someone ponied up like 4 cents for an item that came up to 1.79 after the cashier already put the 2.00 or whatever into the computer, she would not know what the correct change would be to give back. I saw many times cashiers telling people who did that that "i already put it in <the computer> and couldn't 'change' and accept the extra 4 cents!!!

And then, god forbid, if she messed up on that 1.79 order and put in that the customer gave her $20 instead of $2! I caught cashiers giving out $18 in change to a customer who gave her $2! None of the h.s. kinds I worked with knew how to count change back from that $2 (i.e. 1.79 + 1 penny = 1.80, + 2 dimes = $2; here's your 21cents back, thank you!).
(In the immortal words of Barbie, MATH IS HARD!)

So, while it *could* be considered rude to make fun of cashiers who can't count to 5, it sure seems like they can't when we are trying to get our change.

And, yes, I want my pennies too! I'll stand there and wait for you to open a roll, thank you very much.

This is rude.
Not rude, but just a generalization of a stereotypical cashier. I hate to say it (because even I worked fast food at one point), but there is a reason you don't need a Bachelor's Degree to work a cash register...

In Australia they have actually done away with the penny. If your total comes to a .x1 or .x2 they round down and if it is .x3 or .x4 they round up. Everyone is quite happy with it.

I have worked in fast food as well. And it definately is hard work. I don't feel as though I am stupid at all, and quite honestly, I would go back into fast food and restaurant work in a heartbeat!

I didn't read the word as "pennies" when I first saw this thread......:scared1:

There are groups that believe the penny no longer facilitates commerce. They want the penny retired.

I can recall a few times being asked if I wanted my penny or pennies. If its my change of course I do!

I save my change and use it. I jar up the pennies and take to the bank later. The kids get the cash for summer vacation spending.

I know kids that will throw away all coin change! I was driving a student home and we went to Sonic. He asked me if I wanted his change if not he was going to throw it out the window:scared1: I asked him why. He said you look like a poor person if you have and use change:eek::eek: This student was not well off, and I have heard this from low income kids before, change makes you look poor, only use the bills and throw the rest out.

Im sorry but money is money. Now I dont got to the store and use a sack of pennies to buy stuff, It goes to the bank and is cashed.

In my purse I have a little draw string bag that Itry to keep full of quarters for the kids when we are at school games so they can buy thier candy.

I wonder where these kids get this idea?

I call it rude, you can call it what you like. I know plenty of those with Bachelor's Degrees who cannnot make change either. Some who really can't read well.

My daughter is 15 and is a cashier (along with my other daughter going to college in the Fall). I don't appreciate the comments and yes, find them rude and mean spirited.

I admit I work fast food but we do get some dumb employees.

Yes, and I work at a school and we also have some that are not so bright (I may be one of them). But they are kind, funny, generous and good with children. High IQs are not all that it is cracked up to be.

Or they just love to work.

As for me I like getting my pennies back.

I've seen people who can't do simple math without electronic help. I don't use the register to do the change, preferring to use the "ye olde noggin" for something productive... ;)

So, if you go to this same restaurant and are a couple pennies short, are they going to say, that's ok, it's just a couple pennies?

Yes, I want my pennies back -- I might need them later.

I've told the occasional customer that I was out of pennies. Some are witchy and some are like, "I don't care". ;)

I put my pennies (and other change) into containers and save them up for a trip I want to go on to supplement the money I'm taking.

And, it ain't rude to call it like it is when one has dealt with dimwits at fast food joints.
