Would you like to see a DVC winter (ski) resort?

Alright, since everyone is dreaming of hypothetical DVC tropical resorts, how about the opposite?

Would anyone be interested in a winter/mountain resort? With skiing, ice skating, tubing, cross country, dogsleds, sleigh rides, outdoor hot tubs, and hot chocolate?

Disney originally planned on this type of resort in the 1960s but the plans fell through. The country bear jamboree was going to be there.

It will never happen, but I can still dream. A family ski resort with Disney hospitality. I would be there in a heartbeat. Anyone else?

ohioMickey, you are right, they will never build one.

BUT, DW and I were both born and raised in Houston and would love to go and play in the snow for a week once every year or two. All the other things sound great.

A highly seasonal resort such as a ski resort really isn't compatible with DVC's points-based system.

Disney sells 96% of the total year-round capacity. But most people who buy at a ski resort expect to be able to ski. If we assume a four-month ski season, only a third of the capacity occurs at a time of year when people can ski. That's not a promising situation.

Ski resort timeshares work better as conventional fixed-week or fixed-season timeshares, where the buyer knows whether they're buying into prime ski season -- or not.

It's fun to speculate about locations for DVC resorts away from WDW. But all indications are that after Hilton Head and Vero Beach, Disney decided to limit its timeshare development to the WDW property.

Many ski resorts are seasonal for skiing, but also seasonal for golf and other activities. So when the snow melts and the ski bums go home, there is usually a big golf crowd that comes in. At least many of the resorts I've been to have turned their "seasonal" ski resort into a year round vacation spot.

I can only dream too.....until it happens I guess one vacation a year will have to be away from WDW and on cash and Disney will lose my $$$$$$.

As residents of of a 'ski' state, we MUCH prefer Vail in the summer to the winter. We understand that Disney did own some land at Copper Mtn. but has sold it. While Vail is a town with summer activities, Copper is more of just a ski resort. Buying land IN a town such as Vail, Aspen, or Breckenridge is REAL money!!!

I'm sure someone knows the specifics more than I. DVC had plans for a resort in CO, I believe they were going to buy an existing hotel and either convert or add DVC to it. Memory suggests that they had a retainer down and the deal fell through. While it didn't make it as far in the planning process as the Newport location did, it made it further than HI or NYC. I just can't see a none Park associated DVC any more. Maybe Tokyo, Paris, CA.

My vote is HECK NO--I go on vacation to get away from the cold!!!

My husband (from Minnesota and an avid winter sports person) would vote yes, yes, yes!!

I guess we would just have to buy more points so that we could take separate vacations!!

The people in my family are not big skiers, but we have gone to Colorado twice for our summer vacations because when it's HOT here, it's COOL in the mountains! That said, if DVC would offer other activities that could be done in the summer (hiking, horseback riding, etc.) we would definitely consider it.

I know this is just a dream though......
