We are going to WDW in middle of September and wondered how many people get trip insurance in case they have to canceld? We have never gotten the insurance before but with this being hurricane seasion I did not know if that would make a person get the insuance or not. It is an additional $200. for us.

I always get trip insurance. We leave on Mar 22 for the Dominican Republic and someone told us they never get the trip insurance, I couldn't believe it. I like having peace of mind.

I always buy trip insurance. Getting sick, weather, etc. Considering the price of the trip, I figure the price of insurance vs the price I'd be out if I had to cancel is worth it. Always hopeful we never have to use it, of course. :)

We never buy trip insurance, but decided to on our 1st (only) cruise. The costs were so high, and people in the know said we should. But we have never needed it.

I was always skeptical too. Then I scheduled a trip to the Bahamas for 4 people and the travel agent, a friend, was pretty insistent that I buy the insurance. Boy was I glad I did. We had some freak weather in the Northeast that closed down most of the coast. So, all flghts out of NY (mine) and NJ were cancelled. Trying to reschedule, I was told we couldn't get anything out for 2 days and it was only a 5 day trip!

So, since we all had childcare arranged, we cancelled Bahamas and took off in the car for Toronto (only a 3 hour drive). We got rooms in a 4 start hotel for $69 a night and went on the town with all of our budgeted money!

I have to say though, I REALLY wanted to swim with those dolphins!! :sad1: It's 4 years later and I'm still sad about it.

I say buy it, you never know.

We have never bought trip insurance. We travel mainly during hurricane season when kids should be in school. We are happy to say we have none. This includes numerous Carribean cruises and Disney. Of course since we live in NC and go to FL we never fly. Only once has a hurricane threatened our vacation. I believe it was Floyd who arrived in Myrtle Beach the day before we did. Very peaceful the first couple of days as other tourists canceled.

I haven't for our last few trips but travelling in September, I would. LAst year's hurricane season wasn't too bad but a few years ago Orlando had one just about every week in September. Lots of people having to cut trips short or extend by a day or two because of cancelled flights. You can reschedule your resort stay w/o penalty but usually it's expensive to do with air and insurance will take care of that for you.

I've only bought insurance once (for a european cruise from the cruise company) so I'm not sure what plans are best. It's only my husband and I (no kids) traveling to Disney at the end of September/beginning of October. Anyone have any advice as to what plan I should consider. I just looked on insuremytrip and there are so many plans, I'm not sure which one would be most appropriate for us. TIA!!!

We have been to Disney in September 3 times - 2000, 2004 & 2006 an will be going this December. We DID NOT purchase insurance for any of our trips.

We almost had to cancel our 2004 trip due to Hurricane Ivan which was due to hit FL 3 days after our arrival. Even though we did not have the insurance, Disney was going to allow us to reschedule or cancel with no penalty. Since we were driving we figured we could always turn around if the weather started to get bad! Thankfully we went - the weather turned out to gorgeous and the parks were almost empty because so many people cancelled their trips!

Last year about 4 days prior to our leaving we almost had to cancel because of a medical problem with my 3 year old - I spoke with Disney and even without the insurance - they were again very accommodating with my request to change our dates - as was Air Tran. The doctors gave us the all clear and we were able to go as planned.

I guess it does boil down to personal choice. Our trip insurance for our Dominican trip was only $150 (for both of us). If something happened to one of the kids, or us (example illness) and we had to cancel we would have lost the whole thing $2200 if we hadn't bought, so for me it is peace of mind. You may luck out, always decide what is best for you.

Trip Insurance is always a good idea. I have seen to many horror stories with my clients who didn't purchase insurance and lost everything. The $200 will be piece of mind.
