We live in San Antonio. I will be taking an almost 6 year old and an 8 year old. They do great in the car, we have portable dual screen dvd players, so they can each watch their own movie!

IF we do drive it would be just the two kids and I. We will be meeting my parents who will be flying in from Arizona.

Another IF.... if we drive should we drive our vehicle or rent a car? We have a 2009 dodge charger and hubby isnt very happy with putting that many miles on the car. WWYD??:confused3

Well since you asked....:) Would I do it? No way! 18 hours in a car each way is not a vacation to me. I personally would forgo the vacation before I would spend 2-4 days driving for it. But that is me.......

Good luck on what ever you decide to do....

I can understand driving to save $$. I would have to see the price difference and it would have to substantial for me to consider it. I am in NJ so I know I wouldnt consider it unless it was the ONLY option.

Rental car from June 3-18th for a full-size (would be premium with a coupon I have) is $414

Air fare for the three of us is around $750

So if we fly it is around $1165

If we drive the gas would be about $250 (not including the driving while there, that wasnt included in the flying price either though)
Hotel one night on the way there and one night on the way back total $200.
So driving would be around $450
We would bring our own drinks and snacks, but would probably eat something quick and cheap like burger king or something for dinners (twice on the way there and twice on the way back) So around $60 for that.

$655 saved by driving

What do you think??

If you are staying at a Disney resort, then you can skip the rental car.

We are staying off site. We always get a resort through Armed Forces Vacation Club. I couldn't bring myself to pay the Disney prices for a hotel room when I can get a full kitchen, two bedroom suite for $371 per week! That is why we can stay for two weeks. We wouldn't really be able to do Disney at all if we didn't have this choice. We cook most dinners in the room and eat breakfast in the room too. We also pack drinks and snacks for the parks!

I am leaning toward driving, what do you think?

You forgot wear and tear on the car. Usually anything over 4 -5 hours drive is not worth it in my eyes because I look at the total cost of the trip, which includes my time lost and the mileage on the car (I use the IRS rate for reimbursement as a base calculation - which factors in gas costs, as well as the wear and tear). If the trip is more then 4 -5 hours, its almost always cheaper when I load up the cost.
