My BF and I are making our first trip to WDW next July, since this is one of the more expensive times of the year we are staying value (Little Mermaid room!!:cool1:), but ever since BF seen pics of AKL he has been in love. More excited than I have seen him about anything relating to the trip.
I really want to surprise him with a stay there, but I can't really afford much, nor do we have alot of downtime to actually enjoy the resort. I was thinking about doing a one night stay, on our last disney night. I wanted to have a day of downtime in between our WDW and Universal stays, and I think spending it in an AKL Savanna view room would be great, but do you think it would be worth it for one night?

Absolutely - I did the same thing once, and it got me hooked on AKL - love that place and have stayed there now 4-5 times. If it's just for one night - try renting DVC points, and do it at the end of your stay. Trust me, you wont want to stay elsewhere or will be disappointed since it wont measure up. Still you will enjoy your value stay. Good score getting the LM rooms, especially in July. Have a great trip.

I think you would need at least 2 nights to fully take advantage of it. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that your room will be ready when you check in, so it could be fairly late by the time that happens. Luckily, in July, the days are longer, so you should be able to enjoy the view for a couple hours, but you may see very few animals before it gets dark. Check out the next morning will be at 11am, which won't leave you much of a relaxing day in between.

I think that unless you can afford two nights, it would be better to just plan several hours exploring the resort with a meal at one of the table service restaurants. There are TONS of public viewing areas around the resort, most with rocking chairs off the beaten path.

Yes! That's such a wonderful surprise to give to your BF! The atmosphere @ AKL is wonderful!!!!!

Have a great trip to the world!!! :)

yes, that's a great surprise! One night is just enough. Make sure you check out the main public animal viewing area as well (you can get closer to the animals than your balcony). Also, maybe take in a romantic dinner at Jiko. The food is delicious and it can be a quiet, romantic spot.

Yes do it!! If you could possibly squeeze 2 nights out of your trip for it that would be even better!

You could check out of your first resort-head to AKL and check in then head to AK for the day so you can be finished with the park a tad earlier than the other parks and hopefully your room will be ready when you return..then have the night, the whole next day, and night to enjoy the resort :)

Are y'all adventurous eaters? If so try Boma or Sanaa! Both so good!
