Would you do this?

There is a house across the street that is being renovated. It must be a weekend project because they are not there during the week and they seem like friends. Some wear a construction company sweatshirt.
I should add this is a huge project! They have gutted the inside, ripped off all the siding, etc.
So anyway, I am woken up at 6:30 am by voices across the street. At 7:30 the power saw starts. 7:30 on a Sunday morning! I was livid.
So I looked up our city's ordinance and it clearly states no construction noise before 9:00am on a Saturday and Sunday morning.
I was thinking of printing it out and taping it to the door so when they show back up (they pop in and out during the week) they'll see it and hopefully get the hint.
What do you think? Would you leave the note or say something to them if they start back up next weekend?

I would actually say something to them. They can always clam they didn't get/see the note, but if you talk to them and the situation doesn't change you can go to the city and explain that you talked to the owners and they are still disturbing your sleep.

Even 9am would be annoying!! I don't want anything waking me up on the weekends except my bladder! ;)

I don't blame you for being angry. I would be too.

However, my DH is a carpenter, and he is putting an addition on the house across the street. Since the homeowners got started so late in the season, and the weather has been less than perfect, he ended up having to work a weekend to get the roof on the house before it started raining (he cut off the entire second floor of the house, and put on a dormer - the rest of the houe was in jeopardy with no roof).

Now, if he did this regularly, I would understand if the neighbors complained. They are very understanding of the timing issue, and they are reallyhappy to see the house being improved.

If this keeps happening in your neighborhood, definitely complain.

Be thankful you have a 9:00 am ordinance. Ours is 7:00 am which I discovered back in June when my neighbor brought in the backhoe to dig up his driveway which sits right under my bedroom window. Imagine waking up to that.

Our is 7:00am too on weekday mornings. Weekends had different hours.

This weekend we had a wild wind storm on Sunday. Winds up to 60mph and there they are pulling aluminum siding off the house and just leaving it on the ground. I was waiting for some to come flying through our windows or into our cars. Thankfully none did but a whole lot of their other trash blew into our yard. :sad2:

It's possible they got an exemption to work extra hours, so simply taping the ordinance up would not necessarily do any good.

I understand both sides. Each has a valid argument. It tough. There have been times when we wanted to sleep in, and noise is going on in the neighborhood. And times when we wanted to get an early start too and start working on something that was making lots of noise.

Thats why we moved to country, that an inlaws living next door knocking on your door at 6:30 am, but that is a whole other can of worms. Anyway...

I don't think I would talk to them. I would call an officer and let him come out and explain the law. It just goes better coming from an officer. And they don't know it was you. Some people these days don't take kindly to being told what to do or what they should be doing.

I understand why you were upset, but it could be worse. Around here, construction starts at 7am. For some reason, none of the workers can work without having latin music playing high enough to be heard over their power tools. :confused3

Yea...but that music really gets you going...I like it.:lmao:

Sidenote...how is your dd doing in school? Any updates since the last time?

I agree. Over the summer a new subdivision was being built behind my sister's house. They worked 2.5 shifts -- from 5am until midnight. They had these awful flood lights that lit up her whole house. When she called to complain she was told they had an exemption. The topping on the cake was my niece was going thru chemo and wasn't sleeping well as it was and the noise and lights didn't help!

Good news is the construction is done and my niece is doing much better!

How could I find out? I really don't want a repeat this weekend.

I suppose you could call your city's building department and ask them. They would likely be the ones who would have had to approve it, depending on how your town handles construction issues. That would probably be the way I would go anyways, since I don't think confronting them yourself is a good idea. Besides, the guys doing the construction aren't the ones you'd need to talk to -- it would be the general contractor, who might not be there very often. The guys working on the house most likely are just working the hours they're told to be there.

I'm pretty sure it's not a construction company but just a bunch of friends (who work construction) helping him out.
The weekend before they started the roof and then this weekend they worked on other things. There's someone over there now with a crowbar taking off some siding. He's an older retired looking guy that showed up in a minivan. :confused3

I agree. Find out if they have an exemption, and if not, let the code enforceres handle it. You'll stay safely anonomous incase they don't take to kindly to being told they have to follow the ordenance. Hopefully they just didn't realize it was a problem and will politely follow the rules from now on.
