Ok, I am looking at doing this only because it might save some money. I know it probably would be a hassle time wise, so looking for opinions.

We fly in fri. night (staying at a hotel near LAX), then on Sat. we are driving to a location and then to Disneyland resort that night so we would need a car rental. we then plan on doing DLR Sun-Wed. Thursday we plan on going to the beach, doing an LA tour and relaxing. Friday we are back to Disney and then we fly out on the red eye Friday night. So we would need a car Thursday-Friday.

I priced the difference if we get a car at LAX from Fri-Fri at $610

and then Fri-Sat, and a second rental Thursday-Friday at $368 total.

It would save us $272.

would it be that big of a hassle dropping off Sat. night and then getting another rental on Thursday? We are staying off site, within walking distance to the parks, and DTD where we would get the rental.

That's a tough one.. I would be worried about drop off fees since you are not returning the car to the same location (if I was reading your thread right) Is there anyway you can down grade your car type and then keep it all week. I don't like to hassle with things like that but I do understand the money issue. I would check with more car rental agencies just to make sure you are getting the best deal.. sorry I probably wasn't much help.. Good luck in your planning

Can you NOT rent a car for the first leg of your stay? I don't know how many will be travelling, but perhaps you could taxi to your first destination, take the hotel shuttle back the airport and jump on one of the many shuttle/bus/car services to DL. Then just rent your car for your last couple of days. If it's just two of you, financially that could be even cheaper depending on where your first destination is.

No, we definitetely need a car for the first part. If I could find a way to get to the beach on Thursday without a car, then we could maybe avoid the car rental the 2nd part of the stay. We just want to go the beach for a while and do some of the LA touring. I know that Gray line will pick up at the hotel for the tours.

How much do you think a taxi would be to huntington beach and back?

How much is the shuttle service back to the airport from disneyland resort? Where do I find info on that?

that might be an option.

We did that last time in both directions. We found it convenient to use a car instead of a shuttle to allow us to go to the supermarket etc. Drop offs and pick ups weren't a hassle at all.

We are doing the same this time. We want to do a quick drive through Hollywood for one of the children. He wants to see Harrison Fords star. I'm still undecided about the return journey, we may use the shuttle.

If I'm not mistaken, you can actually take the train to the beach. I'm not sure if it's Amtrak or the Metro, but you can do it. Someone else could possible fill you in further, if I can't find my partner Wendy to answer this.

Wow that is expensive. We are renting a car from Weds to Weds this week and we are getting it for $260 total.

What company and do you have coupons?

I've tried coupons, entertainment book, different companies, they all come up that price!:scared1:

Thanks for the input everyone!

We are renting from Alamo. We used an entertainment book coupon but it only got us $30 off. We are also Canadian which for some strange reason seems to make the rentals cheaper than if a US resident drives :confused3

We are renting from Alamo and our total for two weeks will be $186.88. I used the entertainment book coupons.

We are flying in on a Saturday, taking a shuttle to our hotel, checking in, then going to the Alama in DTD and picking up our car. We will use it for 3 days and then return it. I used the 3 day coupon here. Then we will pick it up 2 days later at the same location and have it for 7 days. I used the "get one free day with 5 day rental" on this one. I had to play with it for a few minutes to get the best deal and found out that it would actually benefit us to keep the car for 3 days the first leg even though we only need it for one.

I hope this helps.
