Would you change from Kona to Ohana for dinner?

We have an ADR for dinner at Kona one evening. Ohana is also available, at the same time. I always second-guess myself and I am so indecisive when it comes to these things. It will be me, DH and our 2 boys ages 3 and 5. Originally, I booked Kona for the food, thinking the food would be better than Ohana. But, Ohana seems like it would be fun for the boys. We already have quite a few character meals booked, plus 50s Prime Time for lunch and Whispering Canyon for dinner, and Biergarten for dinner. So we have some fun meals with entertainment already booked.

What would you do if you were me? Would you keep Kona or go for Ohana and try it?

I've never eaten at Kona but Ohana is one of my favorite restaurants on property. The food is great and they do some coconut races or limbo for the kids. I would do Ohana if you think your boys would like the food.

See that's just it...do they offer different foods for the kids if they don't like what is served? I don't know if they would like the food there.

I don't know what your other meals are, but if you have another character meal, I would keep Kona. Great food, and sometimes, it is important to decompress and actually have a good meal that the kids will eat. When we ate a Kona, we did not hear the coconut races, etc and the kids were never the wiser, but ate a great meal WITH vegetables. Enjoy your trip.

No way - we love Kona, and can't stand 'Ohana. Much better service, atmosphere and food at Kona, IMHO.

Happy eating, Tiger :)

Ohanas is lots of fun!:rotfl: But, we think the food at Kona is much better!

We have been going to Ohana for years, and one of our three boys is a very picky eater! They have childrens' items at no extra charge (meaning you pay the $14.99 and children can eat the regular menu items or order kids' items, too.) In the past, they offered the kids' items automatically, but when we were there earlier this month, we had to ask. We got mac and cheese and chicken fingers with fries, I think, but they had many other items for kids.

I have never been to Kona, and we have always loved Ohana. So it's tough for me to say anything negative about Ohana - the salad, bread, potstickers, wings and dessert are outstanding. That's enough for me! But the meats have not been so good lately. While we love the appetizers and desserts, the $30 per adult (and we have pre-teens who qualify as "Disney adults") is quite a bit. Our youngest (a pre-schooler) LOVES the coconut races, limbo, etc., but our older boys are not into that anymore. So we have been considering Kona as an alternative - looks like they have the potstickers and wings!

But OP, at ages 3 and 5, it was great fun! So if you haven't been, this might be a good time to try it.

I haven't eaten at Ohana's for dinner (breakfast though) but we just at at Kona for dinner two weeks ago and loved it. We have three young kids (an almost 4 year old and 1 year old twins) and we felt very comfortable there. Very family friendly. We thought the food was fantastic and my kids were very happy with their meals. We're headed back to WDW in the fall with just our oldest and we're planning to return to Kona for dinner :thumbsup2 I think you should stick with your original plan!

In a word, NO. Ohana for breakfast is one of our fave restaurants. We've stayed at the Poly numerous times. But, for dinner, it's hit and miss. Kona is always excellent. Some of the best food at WDW.

For entertainment value choose Ohana. The games, the music, the servers bringing around skewers of grilled food is different from what most are accustomed to. The food ranges from "just okay" to 'very good". For food with less activity I'd go with Kona. The food will be a cut above what you likely experience at Ohana. If the kids are tired/cranky Kona will be less of a big production. :earsboy:

Ohana is good, but Kona is EXCELLENT! It's the best restaurant that we've tried on property. The steak is amazing and the desserts are out of this world! You've already got a ton of fun meals for your kids - it's good for you to have a nice meal for yourself and your husband. :)

I guess it is ones personal likes or dislikes. I prefer Kona's myself mainly due my personal preferance. I don't care for the way the meal is served at Ohana's and second I feel the food and service is much better at Kona's. Since you already have other meals with entermeant in your plans I would stick with Kona's.

I dont even have to think about this one, definitely Ohana!! The kids would enjoy the entertainment & coconut races.

We would dine at Kona without a thought of dining at Ohana. Kona provides a better experience regarding food quality and service. If you are focused on food quality then Kona is the place.

Ohana has become a hit and miss restaurant...served family style which has different meanings depending on your server and table location. It remains popular due to it unique theme, meat skewers, kid gimmicks, view of Wishes and dining plans.

Thanks everyone for your input! DH and I decided to stick with Kona. We already have 3 character dinners, one character lunch and 2 character breakfasts planned. Plus we have lunch at Sci-Fi, a lunch at 50s Prime Time, and a dinner at Whispering Canyon. We thought about it, and Kona is a place where they will actually eat since it is more low-key. The food also looks great and it may end up being less expensive than Ohana, depending on what we order of course. So we're definitely going with Kona.

Ohana might be fun for the boys but the food in my opinion is a million times better at Kona. When we ate there in September the food is smoked we did not like it at all.

I think you'll really enjoy it! Kona is a must-do for us - breakfast is fab too!

I am having lots of fun following all of your dining posts for your trip in July. We are now staying at Boardwalk too at the end of our trip, so hope you have a great trip and happy eating!

Tiger :)

Thanks! It's nice that my craziness entertains people too! :rotfl:

When is your trip when you will be staying at Boardwalk? I can't wait for our trip...we actually leave several days before we arrive at Disney because we are driving down from NY, plus we are visiting my uncle, and some of my mom's friends in Southern Florida before Disney...and it is now 99 days away!!! Can't believe we are in the double digits already!
