Would you buy riviera since sold out resorts direct prices are increasing?

I tend to buy where I want to stay so if Riviera is where I wanted to stay, I'd have no qualms about purchasing there. The vast majority of my stays occur at home resorts anyway and though switching out at 7 months is occasionally useful, the bulk of the reservations are always made (and kept) at 11 months.

The only way I would buy DVC direct is if they end up building Bay Lake Tower 2. I'm not interested in the location of Riviera or any of the future resorts.

I was thinking about adding Old Key West but with the price change I’m thinking SSR. I still want to see Riviera before I decide on it.

Nope. The location stinks IMO and I don’t want to use the Skyliner to get to EPCOT and HS. The resort itself looks like it’s going to be beautiful but I just wouldn’t be able to get over the fact that I paid all that $ to stay on the land of a moderate resort. This resort should have been built in a more convenient location.

I personally wouldn't buy any of the resorts at today's direct prices. I wouldn't buy any of the sold out resorts direct if they offered them all at Riviera's current price. I think I'm spoiled by buying in 10 years ago (direct and resale) and just can't make the math work for me enough compared to my current contracts. There's only two of us and only buy annual passes every once in a while so the perks just don't matter to me like they do others.

Now if Riviera resale prices do decline to the lower end of the range discussed in the Riviera Resale Price thread I'd definitely be a buyer of around 100-150 points. But I'd like to see the resort in action first. I want to make sure I'm not buying a resort where studios need to be walked all times of the year.

I think it's going to be an amazing resort and look forward to trying it. I think anyone who buys will probably love it. I just am in the camp that Disney will be getting less of my vacation dollars in the near future than more of them.

I would probably not buy Riviera. It just doesn't wow me that much, the theming and the location, and I think there are many better alternatives. No judgement to folks who love it. Maybe if I was actually seeing it in person I would feel differently.

I am not a cadidate for Direct anyway. If I was younger and the full 50 years mattered, or if I lived closer where I could actually benefit from the perks and did more frequent trips, maybe. I stayed at WL in 2017 when they were selling CCV, and I was really tempted to buy that direct, at the time the buy in was lower, and I had really fallen in love with WL. But even then, once I found out about resale it just made more sense than anything direct.

I was considering purchasing an add on to my current resorts. I wanted a small contract. They are hard to get with resort/uy to match. But nothing would convince me to purchase Riviera. To me it looks like a big high rise hotel (albeit a luxury one), but I don't see anything Disney about it. Then add in the restrictions to the purchaser, in the event that I need to sell. Nope. I'll just stick with what I have. I think the L14 are fantastic, theme, locations, magic.

To me it looks like a big high rise hotel (albeit a luxury one), but I don't see anything Disney about it.

They have reduced the theming in many of the hotels via refurb. This is just the first one they have built from the ground up with the new style, and I agree, it's not very themed.

The first time I stayed on property was at CBR and it was so beautifully themed, you really FELT like you were in the Caribbean. And back then they did this amazingly with NO Sebastian and NO Flounder, it was just "Caribbean". The Riviera Resort is beautiful, no doubt, well appointed and nice finishes, but it's not an immersive theme. It could be a hotel anywhere. It may come across differently once people actually can get in and see it, who knows.

I'm planning to stay at Riviera for a few nights in June. I want to make sure I really like it. As I age- I do really like the idea of a lux style Disney resort without all the "fun" of the traditional disney resorts. I love them (themed Disney resorts)- but I can see as I age- appreciating other things just as much- and if I can have that feel in WDW, why not? I'm only looking at 50 or 75 points as an add on though. Reason- I love the idea of the Tower Studio's for a few nights as a couple. I can see future non kid trips in 5-10 years wanting to spend more and more time at Epcot. RIght now- at 46, I enjoy the walk from Boardwalk to Epcot and HS. However after a number of trips with parents and in laws in there 60's, I'm not sure realistically that will be fun in 15 years. Taking the Gondola from right out my front door to either park entrance has a lot of future interest. I think the only way to get those Tower studios- any time- will be to own some points direct.
However, I will not consider doing it until I have stayed there and like the resort, and the Skyliner both.
