Would you bring 12year old son to Akershus?

DH and I really love the Scandanavian dinner menu at Akershus, but looks like all meals are princess ones.

Anyone bring boys for the food and hope they don't notice the whole princess thing going on?

We went to Akershus for dinner in June, not for DD to see princesses, but for DH to have herring :rotfl2: DS11, wasn't thrilled with the princess stuff but was happy with his "adult" kids pizza. When you enter, you'll have a family pic with a princess. Then during dinner the rest of the princesses make their way around to each table. They'll say "hi" and pose for pics and sign autographs. It was fun, food was good we just didn't have the best server that night.

Characters are very sensitive to guests. If you don't want to interact with the characters you can wave them on and they'll pass you by.

We went for the food too with DS12 and DD 10. They didn't bother DS but every princess did stop to say hello to my daughter and ask if we wanted photos. My daughter is not into princesses at all - about as much as my son -so she was embarrassed to have to get up and pose with them every time. But we had fun taking pictures of her anyway! We weren't as happy with the food as we had been in the past - they used to serve it tapas style and you could order smaller samplings of anything on the menu, and it was a great way to try all the different options. Not so any more.

I agree the food used to be better (and more Norwegian????) before it became all princesses all the time :sad2:

It depends on your son. Have you asked him how he feels about it? We took our DD8 and DS11 a year ago to CRT and DS wanted nothing to do with the characters. He was very embarrassed when Cinderella's mice would not leave him alone. My DD8 had a great time but I know we won't be taking DS to any more princess meals. I think it really depends on the child some boys that age might not mind it.

OK, ran it by DS and it's a no. I can see his point---he doesn't even have a sister to make it less glaring that a BOY is at the Princess meal (in his words). Plenty of other restaurants....

we went last year with DS then 9 and he was highly embarassed by the princesses and didn't want to have his photo taken with them unlike his sister, however, he was still collecting autographs. All were very subtle with him except for Jasmine who announced to the restaurant 'typical guy only wants me for my signature.' He blushed but took it in good part, we howled for hours afterwards. His sister loved it though.

It hasn't put him off a return visit next year (when he will be 11)

Akershus is a nice dining room and we've enjoyed our meals there. But, as another post mentioned, the food has been "Americanized" for sure. If you are used to very traditional Norwegian fare, you may be disappointed.
As far as a princess dinner for your 12 yo ds, has he noticed pretty girls yet?:rotfl:

For us the vacation is a family vacation. We do lots of character meals and we all go together.

I have CRT, PSB and 1900 PF for our next trip and my 8 year old isn't excited about it but he knows it's for his sister (and for me!). When I tell him about it he smirks and giggles a bit but he understands. Just like we do things for him that his sister isn't fond of (and I'm not fond of). This may sound harsh but I'm more of a "suck it up it's not all about you" person. I don't think it's fair for everyone else to miss out on the fun because one person won't like it. I know DS will love CRT because of the castle and 1900 PF because of the stepsisters but he probably won't be fond of PSB. But that's okay..........we have a lot of stuff planned to cater to DS too!

Our first trip to WDW (2003) I didn't book CRT because I thought DH and DS wouldn't be so excited about the princesses and I regret it. I should have booked it for ME. It's something I wanted to do! :rotfl:

I am sorely disappointed we never made it there in it's old version. We had a meal scheduled there on our next trip (at the time) when they changed to all princesses, all the time. We cancelled...

I'm sure he'll be able to get through the meal. The second time I went to Disney, we ate at the princess breakfast with my 11, 13, and 15, year old boy cousins, and they managed. The 13 year old actually got really into it, joking around and all. He wishes I still didn't have the picture of Cinderella giving him a kiss though. :rolleyes1
