Would you book a Cat 05E GTY on the Fantasy?

I'm torn, a Cat 05E gty came available for about 300 and change more then my porthole room. The thing is, I would hate to spend more money on a room and get placed in a noisy spot. Would you take the chance and book a Cat 05E gty room, or stick with something you know you will be happy with noise wise.

Another factor, what if they bump you up another cat? Then you don't get the oversized verandah. I would be disappointed.

You could get bumped to a higher category but you would still have a verandah. We love having one but only you can decide if it is worth $300 to change. Also note, if you change you would get the price that a 5e was on the day you originally booked. It may be less than $300 depending on how long ago you booked.

Cat5e cabins are very, very popular because of the extended verandahs. Because it is a GTY cabin, you are only guaranteed that level of cabin or higher, which means you could be bumped up to a higher category and placed anywhere on the ship. I know it can happen that you book a 5eGTY and actually get it, but you have to go into it assuming that you'll be bumped. Go with what you'll be happy with.

Yeah that would be my price from when I booked back in February.

We LOVE cat 5E and generally try to book very early so that we can get the specific cabins we like (looking straight out the back of the ship with a large verandah) . We booked a 5E mid-May 2014 for a 3night Bahama October 31 cruise (a comparatively "last minute" getaway for Mom & Dad) and 5E was on GTY only, so we went ahead with it anyway. We ended up being assigned cabin #10150, which is a Cat 5A normally. 10150 is a nice enough cabin, but it looks out the port side of the ship and has a MUCH smaller verandah, so it is really not my idea of "better". Unfortunately, when you book GTY you have to take what they give you, even if their idea of a "better cabin" doesn't match yours. I have absolutely no data to back this up, but I have a feeling that the likelihood of you getting an actual 5E extended verandah cabin on a 5E GTY is slim and that you will more than likely be "upgraded" to a "better" cabin, so if that's OK with you, then go for it!

I'm a light sleeper, so I am very reserved to them picking the cabin. Especially if it is noisy!!!

With a gty you take what you are given. So the worst room in your category might end up as your room. If they don't have that, the worst room in the next up category might be yours. If you will be disappointed for not getting what you feel is good, don't do it.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your advice. I am going to stick with what I have :)

We booked a 5E GTY on the Fantasy last year and got a 5E. The oversized veranda and the view is great, but the vibration coming into and leaving port areas made me think a helicopter was overhead several times. I probably wouldn't book a 5E again, but to me, any veranda is better than an OV.( I enjoy the privacy of my own outdoor space instead of the public areas.). It is all a matter of personal preference!

Can you book a 5E without GTY? And silly question but what is GTY :sad2:
You can book a 5e without GTY status if it is available. They put categories into GTY status when a certain percentage has sold out. If you are GTY you will get at least the category that you booked or higher. You cannot pick the room.

Thanks for clearing that up! So if I see some 5Es and have an option to actually choose the cabin from several does that mean it's not a GTY?

But, keep in mind that it is still possible to be moved. Disney considers a 5A to be an upgrade from a 5E, even if you do not. If you have booked and want a specific cabin, make sure and have "do not upgrade" noted on your reservation. Then, unless something makes your cabin unsafe or uninhabitable, Disney will not change your category.

Where do you make this notation? Do not upgrade. I booked 5e specifically for a certain cabin, I'd hate to be upgraded to something I didn't want. Thanks
