Would you be suspicious?

We have a girl (age 19) watch our kids a few days a week. She's been doing so for over a year now, and is very trustworthy, always on time, etc. So, within the last few months she mentioned her boyfriend, and within the last month she is now engaged. I asked her if she continued to work for us, she said yes, wedding not until next year in Oct 2008. WELL... she doesn't work on Mon, 1st day of the week she works is Tues. Within the last 5 weeks, 3 Tues of the 5, something has come up last min. Once she was sick, called night before, 2nd family issue for her fiances family, again 3rd was family issue for fiance family. Now, I trust her and all, but I am a very suspicious person by nature and I start to wonder if these things really are true. I was that age once and sure, I called in 'sick' to work. She visits her fiance over the weekend, which makes it more suspicious to me that they're just 'hanging out' longer or whatever. I'm tempted to say something but I don't want to be overreacting. On the other hand, she does have a job, and I can't keep scrambling last minute to find an alternative for my kids (DH & I both work). She was not sick, and did not call in or miss work at all (unless it was planned way ahead of time) until recently when the boyfriend/fiance came into the picture. So, what do you think? Am I overreacting or would you be suspicious too?

In reading your post, I believe you're thinking she's missing work because she wants to spend time with her fiance, is that right?

I'd talk to her about it - not that you think she's being fake in being sick, but just maybe gently remind her that you are depending on her to watch your children?

The only thing you need to deal with is her missing every Tuesday. Why is not relevant unless you pay her for these days ie sick time then she should be sick and you have the right to know. Otherwise it doesn't matter, But you have the right to question her reliability. I would bring it up very matter of fact and not asking why just that you know emergencies happen but you need reliable care so hopefully there won't be any more for a long time. If she doesn't seem to understand this then I would start looking for other care.
