Would you be afraid to fly in November?

We also are flying out Nov 29th from Indy. We are going to wait until closer to the time to make the decision about going or not. We are going to war, and I do not know what life will be like on Nov 29th or before. We will have to pray about it and see how our country is doing at that time. I don't drive and dh would have to drive almost 24hrs straight to get us there or take lots of days to get there if we drove. At this point I think we will go, and we will fly. Children age 7&5 know what has been happening and they too have not said anything about being scared to fly. I agree that every person has to decide for themself what is the best thing to do. Just remember that facing our fears and conquering them makes us stronger. God bless you all! :) ;) :smooth:

Gee, I wish I had your resolve. We have a trip planned 10/17 and have decided to drive down from Massachusetts. It will be a long drive, but I'm just too nervous to consider flying at this point. I hope my nervousness disappears over time......:(

We are still planning on flying down in Nov. although I am pretty nervous about it. I have not liked flying since working a summer for TWA and have had numerous plane explosion nightmares since then. Although this past week was worse than any nightmare I've ever had.

I am a little concerned about my 4 year old DD. She saw the footage over and over last Tuesday cause I needed to watch in order to get my DH home from the city. She knows d*mn well those planes hit those buildings in "daddy's city" but I'm hoping she doesn't understand the full implications.

Everybody says...don't be afraid, we can't let this change our lives, but I personally feel, until they have "defenses" IN THE SKY, me and my family are staying on the ground. I once seen on a 20/20 program, this America young respectable man had a "panic attack", and he got sooooo out of control, it was up to the passengers to take care of him, cuase he wanted in that cockpit! Here the passengers ended up killing this man to save the plane, and of coarse his family is now suing the airline, probably the passengers too. None of this HAD to happen. It's simply unthinkable to me to not have SOMETHING, not necessarliy a gun- although I like this idea too, but at least something to tranqualize them from a distance (heck we do it for big animals - TO SAVE THEIR LIVES, to give them shots, etc)....then the passegers could handcuff the troublemaker or terrorists and nobody would have to die in the air.
When I see this in place, I will gladly fly with NO fear. Chances are you'll be just fine, I am a "worrier" by nature and even a little risk is too much for me.

I agree with some of the posts here -- they will not make me a prisoner of my home. We leave 11/4, return 11/18. I may be more apprehensive, but will still fly. What bothers me most is having a good time while all this is happening. I know it won't be the same.

Will I fly again? You betcha..:) Would I drive to Floriday from Ohio? NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS...ugggh...lol Myself and my boys leave Sept 26 for 6 wonderful days with the Mouse. This will be both boys 5th flights...and they are so excited (and yes they are aware of what just happened in the US) They are ages 6 and 9. We have discussed the whole trip and they are not concerned. Its always been my theory if you teach kids fear as a parent, then its going to be there. I as a parent try to never do that....I teach my kids to be careful and cautious but never to be afraid of doing something that they love. We love Disney and look forward to every trip.

My thoughts on all the safety concerns....

Its not going to matter where you are...what state....what location. If terrorism strikes..it can strike anywhere at any given moment. A train...a mall...an amusement park....a hospital....where you work...etc. Anywhere that there is a large amount of people; a terrorist has no boundaries of where or when they will strike. If we walk around in fear the rest of our lives...that would be really tuff. I feel horrible for what happened to New York and the Pentagon and the planes but by giving in to fear.....thats exactly what these pathetic excuses for humans want and I just refuse to do that.

Life is too short..as we have all seen in the last week...don't let it pass you by...

:p

We're flying on 11/23. I'm a nervous flyer anyway, and I have to admit that I am more nervous now. BUT, I won't let that stop me! A couple of days after last week's tragedies, my DS8 did ask me if it would be safe to fly. He knew that the airports were closed for quite a while. I told him that it will be safe and that the reason the airports were closed last week was because they wanted to make sure that it's very safe for everyone to fly.

Now if I can just make myself believe that, too!

I am B3LM's sister and I am getting on a plane Tuesday. Hopefully, this will help my nephew and nieces be comfortable enough to get on a plane. Wish me luck!

We're flying Nov 2. Security will be beefed up. I refuse to let the terrorists win.

Each person must decide for themselves what they are comfortable with. It's not about "letting the terrorists win" - it's about following your "gut instincts".. We (my son-in-law, daughter, 3-year old granddaughter, and myself) flew to Orlando from upstate New York on September 9th. We were due to fly back home on September 22nd but instead opted to keep our rental car and drive home. Took us 24 hours - 12 hours each day - but in the long run felt we made the right choice.. Our decision was based on the fact that over 400 FBI agents had been sent to the Orlando area due to the large amount of terrorists at large in those surrounding counties.. Add to that the fact that once MCO re-opened it was evacuated not once, but twice, due to bomb threats and a "suspicious" package - as well as a passenger being hauled off a flight to New York because he was being unruly, making threats, etc.; - and we felt we owed it to that little 3-year old girl to opt for a more cautious avenue home.. I'm sure that the flight we were scheduled to take made it back here to New York with no problems but our "gut" feelings said "don't fly" so we didn't.. Now - having said that, will I ever fly again? Yes - I'm sure I will - but I just don't feel that this is the time to do it and until my "gut" tells me otherwise I will keep my feet planted firmly on the ground. Try to set aside your fears and base your decisions only on the FACTS that are at hand and what your instincts tell you and whatever avenue you choose will ultimately be the safest one for you and your family. God bless all and have a safe and happy trip..
