Well, the best way to understand it is to read the book, but I can understand your curiosity. ::yes::

I eat low-carb, very similar to Atkins, though probably not as strict. On Atkins, you restrict the amount of carbohydrates you eat. One good rule of thumb is to avoid white things - no sugar, no white flour, no potatoes, no rice, no noodles. The only exception is cauliflower I think.

You also avoid eating a lot of fruit. Eventually you can eat lower carb fruit like berries and some melons in moderation.

Your daily diet should be made up of adequate protein (notice I did not say HIGH protein, just ADEQUATE protein), and lots of lower carb veggies. In addition, fat is not a bad word - you are encouraged to eat healthy sources of fat.

Hope this helps. There's a lot more, so you may want to pick up the book - Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.

The best thing to do is to go to the library and get a copy of his book, The New Diet Revolution. In it he describes the principles behind his diet and the different stages. There's the 2-week induction phase where you get rid of carbohydrates, and then an on-going weight loss phase - that's what most people think of when they think of the diet. The paperback should be readily available at most stores if you can't get a copy at your library. It's a lot of information to try and sum up here.

Best wishes!

Get the book and read it carefully--Dr. Atkins explains everything very well.

I'd be happy to email the rules for induction if you wish.

My husband is type II diabetic and has been on Atkins for a year. He has eliminated all refind carbohydrates from his diet. That means he doesn't eat white flour, cornstarch or sugar or any products that contain those things, like pasta.

It is really very easy to do and got his diabetes under control immediately.

Send me a pm if you want me to email you the rules for induction.
