Sorry, I know this is a subject that some people are uncomfortable or whatever about but I would Like to know. Would you ban this book?[read the article.]

it made front page news on AOL

my thoughts are below

No I wouldn't.

Banning Books is the ultimate bottom line for me. There is no more ignorant practice short of burning them.

i agree
if you dont want you child to read it just don't give your permission like the article said. but no book should be completely banned.

No, banning books is like putting restrictions on the First Amendment (free speech).

I don't even understand why you wouldn't want your child to read this book.

Just because you're close minded, doesn't mean you have to raise your child that way. And you would have to be close minded to deny your child of a book with two gay characters in it.

thats the thing with the world today.
some people just think if your not perfect by their standards, like if your gay or something else like that, your wrong.
some people can be very narrowminded. like the lady in the article.

I'm lucky. I live with very open minded people and I'm so open minded my brain might fall out my ear.

I'm lazy. even if I didn't agree with the book, I wouldn't make a big enough fuss to end up on the front page of AOL.

I don't see the big deal. If the chilren have questions about it, just answer their questions truthfully. No child is "too young" to learn about that. If they are old enough to ask about it, they are old enough for the amswer I would think.

whats the big deal? its a freaking book for christs sake! yeah some people are against gays rights and all, but why take it out on weather a child wants to read a book or not. to me, the book is about a loving family. what if the penquin parents were 2 female? would it be different? no! its just a book about a penquin with to loving parents! if parents are so worried about the book, dont let your child read it! simple! geez! :furious: :sad2:

I wouldn't agree to banning it, I think. Banning or restricting something just makes it look that much more enticing. Y'know, forbidden fruit 'n' all.

I don't like it, and I would not want it readily available... but eh, I dunno. The main story of the book, (two unrelated animals caring for a baby with no parents of it's own) I have no problem with... it's the subtleties that can be found objectionable. For that matter, it may be too subtle for most kids who'd be looking through it to notice.

I'm against banning books as well. Books, music, movies - anything.. freedom of speech is just the start of all the reasons why.

There was a big deal about banning Adam Rapp's The Buffalo Tree at my school a few years ago after parent complaints(it made the news, magazines.. Adam Rapp even gave a press confrence about it).. At a school board meeting one parent(against banning) put it very well: If a parent is doing his/her job they should have no problem in letting a child read anything(within reason). Parents should talk to their children about any issue they believe is present in it - not sheltering them from it. There are much worse things in the world than *gasp* reading a book!

Too bad the rest of the world doesn't see it that way. :sad2:

Banning books is just plain stupid. If you don't want your child to read it, don't.

This is sad.
Honestly it is.
It's a book, it's fictional, there is no reason to ban it.
We should teach today's generation of kids, that not everybody is the same, and that it's okay for people to be that way. That you should never judge anyone that you have never talked to. That you shouldn't hate someone unless they give a good reason to. Kids these days are ridiculous and say they hate people for the littlest of reasons.
There is nothing wrong with this book, kid's should be aware of things, and be introduced to homosexuality at a young age. Most of the people I know think being gay is an insult, is disgusting, and it's mean. We weren't really exposed to it for a long time. I remember the first time I was actually introduced to it was in the Beautiful video by Christina Aguilera. Be proud for who you are.

Sorry... I can't believe this is more important than other issues. It's a book about two males fathering an orphan. Yah, what's wrong with that? People are way too biased as to what is "right" and "wrong"..

I would never ban this book. I'd read it to my kids. It's a true story. I would never want my kids to live in a fictional world.

If it was two female penguins would people still make a fuss about it? No. It's not right that if it's two male penguins, the book gets complained about but if it the book is about two female penguins it's perfectly alright. So, would I ban the book? Absolutely not.

Nobody said if it it was too female penguins it would be OK. You're just assuming that.
