We have reservations for POFQ for mid October but are waiting to see what the AP rates are for October for a possible move to WL (where we have never stayed before) or the AKL (which we have stayed before and loved it). We probably would only be able to do standard rooms at either Deluxe after we purchase the AP for the reduced room rate.

Which would you go with?

THANKS, in advance, for your advice!

Wilderness Lodge ofcause!!

... even tough im an ordinary guy traveling alone, i like to stay at great resorts!

Im going to stay at Wilderness Lodge and Beach Club in July, cant wait!

If a code is out and you can afford WL then go for it. It will give you that extra special touch for your vacation.

That is tough. I love WL, but POFQ is really nice, too (really good deal with an AP rate for the $ ;) ).

if money was not an issue, i would stay at a deluxe 9/10 times.

If $$$ was not at issue, I would go with any Deluxe on property vs a moderate. ::MickeyMo

I would probably pick WL too. You could save a lot of money staying at a moderate on a good AP rate too and use the extra cash for other things. It is a tough decision. I might stay at Port Orleans if I was going to MGM and Epcot more.

for us it's deluxe or stay home. Sorry, no flaming please, but we like the comfort and spaciousness of the Deluxes. DH is 6'2" and refuses to sleep in a full sized bed.

I like the locations of the deluxes. The queen beds are a big plus, too! If you are doing MNSSHP, the WL would be really convenient.

If I had not stayed at the deluxe yet, I would probably try the deluxe, however, my favorite resort, even comparing to the GF, is the CBR so if that was an option I'd take that one hands down!

Well I have to say WL and Poly are my dream resorts and we were booked for both this upcoming trip but we decided to add on dining option. Well my TA was telling me that she loves POR and she just figured the $ and we ended up saving $700 by downgrading from deluxe to mod but had food with the mods. So I took the bait and part of me still wants to book the WL and Poly as money isn't an issue right now but logically I can't justify that. So I'm staying put and hoping for the best.

The Poly was my dream resort. I always wanted to stay there so in 2002 we got a good rate & finally booked. Well the resort was just o.k. for me (i know alot of people love it) but I am not one of them. It was a nice room but not worth the $$$. The checkin staff was r u d e. The room was not clean. The food court/grill was too small for the resort. Always crowded..2 mornings we just stood there with our breakfast trays looking for a place to sit. For what we paid we could have had the BC which to me is a great resort.

Anyway the next year we went to the CBR & it was the best vacation!! The room was clean, the staff was very friendly, got a complimentary upgrade to a corner water view room, saw the epcot fireworks from our room, pool was fun, foodcourt was large & had a variety of items..everything was perfect!
So for me I'd pick CBR over Poly. Can someone just move the CBR over to the monorail? :teeth:

So now I am faced with the same dilemma as you are. We have the POR booked (the 5 of us) for Oct. I hear great things about it but I don't really like pine trees, shade, & bayou stuff in FL. I want palm trees & beach. Anyway I digress...I would like to switch to the CR wing when/if the AP rate comes out. The rate might be around $169. We won't have a car so the location is ideal. We also are going to MNSSHP, so how cool would it be to walk back to the resort at midnight & not have to wait for a bus with 3 sleepy kids. I am just afraid to make the same mistake of staying at the CR & not liking it like with the Poly. CR doesn't have a big food court either, I hear they don't do towel animals & they don't have a kiddie pool. POR has all that. So what to do?

Having said all that. The WL looks very nice & if you could get a good rate I would suggest the upgrade.

I love S/D but like POR, so I would stay there occasionally, but since I only go to DW occasionally, I seem to book S/D instead.

Wilderness Lodge is so cool! We didn't stay there, but we loved the atmosphere. It has a killer pool as well :) I'd go with there :flower:

When we were doing our rounds of all the resorts, there were a couple of anomolies but otherwise, money aside (and even not), we'd always take a deluxe resort over a moderate resort, and a moderate resort over a budget resort. The exceptions were notable though.

Wilderness Lodge, back then, we categorized as a "first class" hotel (in between moderate and deluxe) -- as were the garden wings of the Contemporary -- but we recognized Wilderness Lodge should have always been considered a full deluxe, and would always have stayed there over any other resort, except perhaps the Grand Floridian.

And even the Contemporary Tower didn't impress me much, and would choose Dixie Landings (now Port Orleans) instead.

When going with kids...I'd always go deluxe...mainly for the extra space of the room to stash all of the stuff we have to bring along with us!

If just my DH and I...moderate would be fine.

I"m picky. I loved staying at the Poly BUT I wasn't satisfied unless it was in a lagoon front (then Tonga but now reanamed Hawaii) room. Now those rooms are all concierge and out of my budget. So, if a Poly standard or a corner/waterfront POR was the choice, I'd choose POR nowadays.

I had a bad experience at AKL and tho everyone else seems to love it, I wouldn't go back. Now I own DVC and have plenty of choices to keep me occupied!!!!! Finally, the difference between a decent vacation and a great vacation isn't only a function of where you stay, but more the experiences and personal interactions during the trip. Pick one, no regrets and expend your energies on having a wonderful time with your family. I've learned that the hard way, so for what it is worth....don't sweat the small stuff!

We've stayed either Deluxe or Home Away from Home since 1984. This year we're staying @ CSR. I figured we'd get 2 rooms( connecting). This way DH and I have one room and DD and her friend, both 11, have their own. DH loves the idea of 2 bathrooms as he's outnumbered! Although I have loved Deluxe, I'm really excited to try CSR as I have read so many nice things about it. Buzz has an especially wonderful site. I've read here and on other boards that most people enjoy their trip whatever hotel they choose. I plan to be one of those. We're travelling to May 29 through June 6 and I can't wait to write a trip report!!!

If budget permits, I would definitely do deluxe. I like the queen bed cause that is what I am used to. And I also like my private balcony vs. just a walkway at the moderate and value. And it is a little more spacious at the deluxe (WL) than the moderate. And I like the interior corridor at the deluxe.
