we are trying Coral Reef for the first time this trip...I am hearing about long wait times before you get seated...would it help to show up say a half hour BEFORE your ADR?

see I am thinking this way
we have a 6pm ADR; we come at 530, as soon as something opens up near 6 we are in???

another party for a 6pm shows up at 6pm....they now have to wait, could be 30 more minutes///

i wouldn't really see the point- as either way you're standing there waiting. But if you happen to be ready early and are done w/ whatever attraction u were at b4, then getting there early can't hurt. I've never had ot wait more than 10 minutes there though.

:confused3 Aren't you still waiting? And coming early generally puts you at the end of the list anyway. I think it is a moot point. You'll be waiting unless you are one of the FIRST tables at dinner.

I was thinking it might make it a 30 minute wait rather than and hour wait...do they just put people down as the arrive - you know make a new list of who is here - or if we arrived before someone who had an ADR before ours would they be put in front of us....

While it is always a good idea to be at your ADR at least 15 minutes before your time (WDW will tell you this also) it doens't mean anything when it comes to your wait time.

Once you check in, you will be seated at the next available table for your party size. So if you are a 4 top and the next available 4 top is lingering over dessert, there isn't really anyway of getting out of waiting for you table. While it may minimize your wait time though.

I k now it didnt work for a family at LeCellier - that mom was so angry - she kept yelling at the CM's saying people that got there AFTER her were being seated before her - she was told her ressie time was 8:30pm and she wouldnt be seated before then - she was seated the same time we were 9pm (we had an 8:30 ressie)

she also yelled that she would've gotten an earlier ressie, but when she called 90 days before her vacation to make ressies, this was the only time left...

(I have no idea how long they'd been waiting, but it sounded like an hour at least!)

I have done it both ways (shown up 30 minutes early or right on time) and it seems we wait just as long.
