Would This Be Rude Of Me?

Tomorrow at DS's school, the fundraiser stuff we ordered is coming in. I had the bright idea to pick him up instead of him carrying it on the bus. I mentioned this to my neighbor and offered to pick up her son(and his stuff) too. The more I think of it, its sounding like a pain for me to lug 2 big orders out to the car(we have to park on a busy street, and possibly have to cross it, depending where I find a space) while keeping a close eye on the 3 kids(my 2 yo included). There is a PTO meeting at night and the stuff can be picked up before that. DH might go to the meeting so Im thinking he can get the stuff then. Would it be terrible if I told my neighbor I changed my mind and Im not picking her son up? Especially, after I went and offered? DH will still get her stuff for her if she wants, so the only change would be her DS would have to take the bus, which he normally does.
I know its no big deal but I feel rude offering to do something and then taking it back? How bad is that?

Um how about, "I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be able to pick up your son after all, I hope it doesn't create a problem for you?

Not rude at all.

Well your friend may now be counting on you to pick up her son. I know I would be bummed if you called and backed out on me. But I would also be understanding of your situation. If you are polite and let her know the reasons I am sure she would understand.

Good luck.:)

I agree with Serena.....I don't think it's rude at all.

I think that it was nice that you offered but now your plans have changed. I don't think that it should be a problem for her. It wouldn't bother me. I wouldn't worry about it if it bothers her than she must not have many problems in her life and thats a good thing. Have a nice day.

Since he takes the bus anyway, I don't think it's rude at all. You are offiering to have your husband pick up her things later. Sounds good to me.:D

Thanks everyone. Like I said the only change would be he would have to take the bus. Since my DS has skating class after school, I was planning to just take the friend home and walk him to his granfathers house(also a neighbor), but with him taking the bus the grandfather would have to come out and meet him at the bus like usual(or actually I could get him at the bus and take him over there myself). So, its definitely not like she has to leave work, rearrange plans, or find a sitter or anything. In fact she knows about the skating class and she told me to just drop him off at her FILs(I dont want you guys to think, Im pawning the kid off when I should have him. This part was already arranged sine he usually goes over there on Tuesdays & Thurs)
Ok, I dont feel so bad about it now. Thanks again for the opinions.
