Would the rose and crown be a disappointment?

We like to try a few new places each trip but have never really considered the rose and crown because we could eat this at home! I hear good things but not sure if its because they are non-Brits and therefore see it as unique

What did you think of it?

We tried it for first time last year - food was amazing and we were on the lower patio and timed our meal with Illuminations... It was FANTASTIC

Rose & Crown is top of our list this year!

We've been a few times over the years. When the boys were much younger it was great as a little familiar food always went down well. Now they are older we never go as to us we can always eat the food they serve there when we are home and we'd rather not use our DDP credit or OOP $$ there.

We do however love the Harry Ramsden fish & chips and often have them as lunch as we feel they are a great use of a CS credit :thumbsup2

we wouldn't go back...

Can't remember what we had now as it was very forgettable, but we thought it was not great at all and we could have had a much nicer CS meal...and it was expensive for what it was. Can't remember what pudding we had either other then we both left most of it..But I do agree its down to personal taste and the R&C in our opinion didn't do british food well.

We go everytime and it is one of our favourite restaurants. Never had a bad meal there

We go there once most times we are there and have never been disappointed. We always try different meals too, and enjoy the cliched feel to the atmosphere. The only fish I like is cod from the chippy, and this is the only place I've ever been where you can get a main course of steak and battered cod. It's a real treat that I always look forward to!!

We went last year and loved it. We had a table on the patio so had the perfect view of Illuminations. The CM we had was lovely too. .

Neither would we. I've been twice - once in 2003 and I don't know why I bothered going back in 2010! Also can't remember what we had but remember it was mediocre and I don't think the service was particularly great either (in 2010 anyway).

We go every year and try our best to time it with the illuminations, most of my family enjoy the food except our youngest, she was begging us not to go this year and pick somewhere else when we visit Epcot.

I love that R&C gets rave reviews from Brits, but I have yet to try it, on the basis that I can eat this at home. However, my family are creatures of habit and stick to what they know, so it might be an interesting place to try in December... xx

One of my best friends was the lead singer in the Voices Of Liberty (he's now lead Dapper Dan) and he used to love to eat the fish n chips over there in the UK pavilion for his lunch. I personally have never tried them although tried most of the food at EPCOT. The R&C seems a bit hit and miss but think we might go for it this year.

If we want to catch Illuminations while eating what would be the best time to book? Do they have outdoor and indoor seating?

Anyone remember there used to be a cart outside the R&C selling Tizer cans and Ribena cartons?

you don't have to be there during illuminations...
as long as you eat dinner there, you can come back into the reserved area...
i didnt' know that, but the waiter told us...
we had really early dinner....at around 5 pm or something like that..

we came back at 8:30 and they let us into the viewing area..
it was THE best location i've ever had for seeing illuminations!!!

that was the first time we ate at R&C..
i'd seen good reviews on this board and since we had the dining plan i figured why not try it....
we ended up sitting outside.....and that was at 5 in the afternoon in august - as you can imagine it was deadly hot and humid..

my family thought i was crazy!!! (as did i, for that matter)..

but they didn't have a table for the 6 of us available inside, so outside it was..
it turned out to be the perfect spot....nice and shady....with a lovely view of the lake and all the countries..

and the service was fantastic....so friendly.....we were there at least 2 hours...
the server refilled our drinks at least 8 times....seriously....all those nice ice cold drinks were perfect after so many hours in the park on a hot hot hot day..
and we really enjoyed the food....i had salmon and thought it was really nicely done! i can't remember what i had for dessert, but i do remember enjoying it as well..

all in all it was a very very very pleasant break in our day....

the food, the atmosphere, the waiter....even the chef came out several times to chat with us...
initially because of a bit of a screw up on our pre-ordered food (for 3 of the people in our group of six)...and then after that he just kept coming out to chat....nicest guy you'd ever want to meet...
and he also took my complete list of ADRs that were left and made sure that all the pre-ordered food would be there for us!!! (up to that point, there had been a problem each time - not a problem that couldn't be solved...disney really doesn't know the word "no")..

anyway, it was a perfect perfect day...
and since then it has been one of our 4 favorite restaurants at WDW...
#1 is victoria and albert
#2 is Citrico (a two credit signature restaurant at the grand floridian)
#3 and #4 are equally good for us - Rose & Crown and Yak & Yeti

Hi unfortunately we had a bad dining experience there last August Our food wasn't good at all had to send 2 meals back service wasn't brilliant and I was embarassed to think that peope thought that was good english fare. But as you can see lot's of people like it so each to its own we were just looking forward to it and it didn't do it for us but Id say go and try it for yourself . Have fun whatever and wherever you decide to eat :goodvibes

I worked at the Rose and Crown for a year. For most of the first half, the chef (who thought he was God himself!) would put out food that wasn't anything like we'd eat at home (blood sausage, really?) They changed chefs towards the end of my time there and he actually bothered to ask us what we ate back home and what was good or bad about the menu so it improved. I'm planning on eating there when I go back but I must confess it's more to show my husband my old workplace than for the food. I hate to admit it, but the best restaurant in EPCOT is Le Cellier. (This is what my tables told me, I've never eaten there myself)

Used to be excellent, had a fantastic meal there but went back again and it was terrible, far too much salt in the dish I had. All 3 of us disliked our meal. Not been back since it changed to a Signature. Hope you enjoy it.

If you want something familiar then you can get it at the Rose and Crown. We can get better pub food at many local pubs but ate there twice when the children were younger because it was familiar and they loved it. We found the service to be good, Illuminations viewing easy and no line if you time your meal right, but certainly not a great view compared to alternative Illuminations viewing options. So personally I probably won't go there again now the children are older but I would recommend it if it meets your needs. What I do really rate is the fish and chips at the pub window. Last summer we stayed at the Beach Club and two nights me and my DS arrived at Epcot half an hour before Illuminations, shared fish and chips and got a decent if not great view of Illuminations near the outside bar just before it started. The fish is good.

I would agree 100% with that. We have eaten at Le Cellier five times. The last time it had changed to two credits for those on the dining plan. For our meal at least, the service had dropped from outstanding to poor, the food from outstanding to good, and the value from expensive to silly. We are not returning this year.

Another vote here. First time great. Second not.

We love R&C. It's our last night tradition and each of the half dozen times we've eaten there we've had a great meal and the fireworks area is a special bonus.
