Would someone please explain this to me..

Pee isn't so bad. You could actually drink pee in a survival situation. It is gross to think that you are bathing in peed in pools, but htat is the reality of it.

Poop is a whole different story. There are many bacteria in poop. Some can cause very seroius diease. The chemicals in the pools will kill most of it, but too many poops in the pool is not good.

Bottom line, keep you mouth closed, ears plugged and say a prayer.

I have to say that when I heard that the pool at POR was closed, I felt a tad guilty.

My son was ALWAYS in a swimming diaper but when I took one off the last time in our room, there was a watery diarreah (sp?) mess. I decided that he was not going to go back into the pool--- even with the swim diaper . I am not sure those swim diapers actually work so well--it seems that if water can get into it, it can also get out of it..

He was upset and I tried to hide the fact that his two big sisters were going swimming. I will be so relieved when he is fully trained.

I swear no pool gets closed more often than the Mickey Pool on DCL. Children who aren't potty trained are not allowed into the larger pool area, and this includes children in swim diapers. So some parent will try to circumvent the rules by just plopping their non or insufficiently potty trained child into the pool without a swim diaper. Kid goes potty, and now they have to close, completely drain and clean the pool -- ruins the fun for everyone.

If the only reason this child was wearing a diaper was because he/she is mostly potty trained but still has "accidents," then they can have an accident in the pool and need a swim diaper. Personally, I don't even trust swim diapers at all. Yes, chlorine is supposed to kill a lot of the bacteria, but people still get sick from E. Coli b/c some pool manager didn't sufficiently test the chlorine levels/didn't check to make sure the machines were functioning correctly. Anyone else remember all those kids getting sick at that big water park? Sad. :sad2:

No, you had ever right to raise an eyebrow over that one, IMO. What I hate seeing is people letting their little kids run butt naked in the jets. Or that change their 2 yr old's (or any age) kid's diaper in the middle of all the action. IMO, when your child is old enough to walk and form complete sentences, they are too old to be running in the water with their bottom hanging out!:scared1:

...and let me just add that this demonstrates reason #1 that I don't swim in public pools.:rotfl:

I did not read every post, but just want to comment - do you know how many bigger kids and adults pee in the pool? ;) And how may people blow their nose in the pool? I would not worry too much about a diaperless toddler letting out some pee. ;)

This is why I refuse to swim in pools. ICK!!!

Pee is not the problem and I amazed at those that think this is not a serious situation. Fecal matter in the pool water can carry germs and bacteria like E. coli and hepatitis A, or even parasites that can make other swimmers sick. E Coli can be lethal.
