Maybe you have read that I am close to opening a gourmet spice store. I have a few names in mind. These are dot coms that are still available that I like. There are still things to work out, but it is looking likely.

Poll coming. Thanks for voting!

What would happen if you use Bridge St and later have to relocate? That would be confusing...

I really like Salt of the Earth Spice Company. The Bridge Street option is nice, too. I really do not like the other options.

Actually I know companies that have done that. I don't think it really matters much. I did at first, but then I gave it some thought and it didn't bother me at all in the end. :)

Not sure I love them either, other than they are easy to remember for a dot com.

I love spice stores!

I'll bite with another name... Sugars and Spices. I don't necessarily love it, but it's another option.

I really like Salt of the Earth.

Will you be selling bulk spices or prepackaged ones? I always stop in the spice store on 9th Ave in the Italian Market in Phillie when I'm there.

Both... right now it is still a tossup if I go the franchise route or go on my own. I *think* I am leaning towards going solo because it looks like ( if I sign a deal for space ) that I would actually have FAR too much space for what the franchise allows.

I love spice stores too... anything that helps me with making BBQ is A-OK in my book.

If you have a larger retail space, any chance that you can use a portion of that space to teach people how to incorporate spices into curries or how to make the best BBQ rubs, etc?

I voted for That Spice Guy mainly because I call the spice store here "the spice store" vs it's real name. It is just easier I guess and since you are in a smaller town everyone is going to know you by "That Spice Guy" anyway. Those that don't know you will talk about you at parties as "you know, that spice guy with the twin daughters". The Salt of the Earth is a little hokey for me personally.

That is the plan. In fact not only in store, but to have a whole youtube page, now that you can make REALLY nice youtube pages.

I voted for That Spice Guy.

But I changed my mind.

What about Papa Deuce's?

I can see that. I do, however, plan to carry MANY varieties of salt if I go at this solo. Might carry as many as 10 - 15 varieties.

I was surprised at some of the prices of bulk salt. One variety is about $20 a pound even at wholesale prices bought in 50 pound bags.

I voted for the Bridge St. Spice Co. It has an Olde Tyme feel (like the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.).

Let me also toss out a suggestion:

The Spice of Life

Good luck with your venture.

call me an oddball, but I kinda like "That Spice Shop"

Maybe it's my smartassness, or the types of companies whose branding and image I've worked with in the past, but nontraditional names like that speak to me.

Plus, it's the easiest name for a customer to remember.
"Where's you get that" "Oh... err.. at that spice shop"

As a dot com, it is taken. My daughters and wife liked that one, as well as "The Spice is Right", which is also taken. :)

Of those listed I do not think the 2nd or 3rd ones have the same 'hook' the other ones do.

Bridge Street Spice Company all the way!!!

It sounds like it's been around forever. :thumbsup2
