Would January be a good month for a family with 3 kids?

We are trying to plan a vacation for my family (me, DH our 3 kiddos and my Dad and stepmother).
How is January 1-8? I am concerned about lines and crowds. New years Day is probably bad huh :confused3 ?

TIA, April

I think that the New Years crowds will still be around then. We LOVE mid to late January, avoiding MLK week-end if possible. We are leaving on the 20th this year. NO lines, cool temps, and lower prices!!!!!!

We were there 12/31 - 1/4 last year. Although 1/1 was crowded the crowds died down as the week went on. I think most people went home Monday b/c schools were off. I would go after most schools are back in session which is around the 2nd here. The marathon is the next weekend but we have been there for that also and did not find the crowds to be bad. I think your dates are fine but you would probably find less crowds the next week.

We love January with 3 kids! Not hot, not crowded, nice break in the winter action! :thumbsup2

another vote for January! We went last year Jan 5-12, my brother ran the marathon. Crownds were low, especially in comparison to July, when we usually go. Never waited longer than 15 minutes for a ride. It wait time was posted for longer than 15 minutes, we fast passed it! This year we are going Jan 20-27. Hope weather is nice, that's the only real problem with Jan--unpredictable weather. Last year we wore winter coats the first 3 days, last 3 days we swam!! Just be prepared for any weather type.

Our schools don't go back until Jan 8th this year because of how the holiday falls so it may still be pretty crowded.

We were at WDW from Jan 3-Jan 6 last year. It was a great time - we had nice weather (cool in the AM, but warmed up to low to mid 70's by afternoon every day), crowds weren't even an issue - we were able to ride Dumbo about 5 times in a row and the most we waited was 15 minutes.

We did 1/27-2/4 this year. I wanted to go in September/early Oct, since we had gone 2x prior and it was great, but dh wanted to go when it was the middle of winter here. (western Mass :wave2: ) I was reluctant, but let me tell you, it was the best!!!!!! It was cool in the am, and warmed up to the 70's by afternoon. Kinda like today as a matter of fact!! We wore sweatshirts in the am and swam in the afternoon. I've heard the weather is unpredictable, but the parks weren't that crowded, and only needed fast passes for Soarin and space mountain. Oh and Expedition Everest, but that is a whole nother post!!! (ride broke down 1/2 way thru and we had to climb down)

Ok, so what I am saying is.... another vote for January!!!!!! :cheer2:

I really want to surprise my children with a trip to US and WDW for Christmas next year.
I think I am just going to bite the bullet and book out trip here in the next couple of months (for next year).
I was thinking we would leave around the end of the month and stay for a week or more if I can talk DH into it

Now I need to come up with ways to surprise them!! THey still think we can't go until Feb.2008. Every year we have been up hee we just keep telling them as soon as we are done here we will go to WDW but then my Dh accepted a new job and we need to buy a house so they think we have postpned our trip!! I can' wait to surpride them!! :cheer2:

We have 3 kids and have gone to WDW in January many times. We discovered recently that we prefer September as it seems less crowded and the weather is more reliable (January can be a really mixed bag, weather-wise). But January is about the least crowded otherwise. Just be prepared for any kind of weather.

By describing the September weather as "reliable", do you mean hot? And hurricane prone?? :rotfl:

Our trip last year was the last week in January. It was absolutley WONDERFUL. We didn't wait in a single line for anything. And the weather was amazing. We were in shorts during the day and jeans and tees at night. Have fun! -Lesley
