Would It Be Weird

I would go where you wanted to eat. You have just as much of a right to enjoy the restaurants as any one else!

As for Nine Dragons, maybe try the kids sweet & sour chicken (hold the sauce). It is just like chicken nuggets. That is what we will be doing with our DS 4.:wizard:

If Dh And I Ate At A SitdoWn Dinner In World Showcase(say Nine Dragons) And Our 3 Kids Didn't Eat ? They Are Too Picky!
I don't think it's weird. Go and have a great dinner and a great vacation with your family!

DLANGE3386, I think that's a great idea. Why should you waste money if your children aren't going to eat the food. Part of going out to dinner is enjoying each other's company.

Last night my family which consists of 5 people went to dinner at Applebees. Only my DH and my 2 DS's ate. My DD and I weren't hungry. I did order a diet coke for myself and my DD only ordered water. I never even considered it to be wrong. The waiter didn't make us feel bad or anything like that either. My bill including tax came to $43 and I left a $9 tip (which I thought was more than reasonable).

The reason my DD and I weren't hungry is because I had already fed everyone (excluding my DH) dinner at 4:30. We don't usually eat that early but my boys had to play in the school concert and they had to be at the school by 6:00. We normally take them out for dessert after the concerts, but because my DH came right from work to the concert and hadn't eaten dinner, he wanted to go someplace where they had somewhat decent food. And whoever wanted just dessert could get that there too.

We are going to Disney in July and we are on the dining plan. My dd and I plan on sharing many of our meals (me because I'm on Weight Watchers and want to minimize the damage; and my DD because she simply doesn't eat that much).

Enjoy your meal (and your trip!)!!

While I dont think it would be wierd.. I would feel uncomfortable doing this to the waiter. I know the restaurant probably wont blink an eye at doing this but the waiter who is waiting a 5 top will only be making tips of a 2 top.. potentially losing out on income. I would not be above doing it but I would either order a dessert for the kids or just add a little to the tip. I wouldnt eat at Nine Dragons either:crazy2: but thats another story and another thread

I would not be comfortable doing this as tables for 5 or 6 are hard to come by. You are effectively taking one of those when you really are only utilizing a table for 2.

I agree.

Feed the picky ones dinner before you go (maybe CS somewhere??), then let them order dessert at Nine Dragons. You get your dinner, they're occupied with dessert, and no "your wasting valuable seats" issues since everyone has ordered something.

So that a family of five with a couple of picky eaters can still enjoy their vacation together? Really. I don't know about you, but when I go to WDW, I'm thinking about enjoying it with my family, not if the restaurant I'm eating at is making money or not. :confused3

That's very true but unfortunately if I'm the person who owns the restaurant and many of the restaurant in Epcot are not owned by disney. I still have to worry about making money. In our restaurant (not on disney) this is a problem with large parties and a limited amount of space. Yes, I am more inclined to give the table to a party where I know everyone will eat.

Oh for goodness sake, some of you people get more ridiculous everyday.

OP, go with your family and eat where you want. Let the kids have CS before hand and order them a dessert to occupy them while you and DH are enjoying your meal. Maybe your waiter won't get as big a tip from your table as he might if everyone was eating a full meal. OH WELL! His next 5 tables might be some of those who routinely tip 25%, so I am sure, in the big scheme of things, it will all work out. His salary is not your problem. Tipping adequately for what you do order is your responibility...not working out a spreadsheet to determine what another group of patrons might order and what his earnings might be! What's next, should guests who chose not to order an appetizer and/or dessert tip extra because of the lost earning potential to the waiter for not having a higher bill?

And yes, before anyone asks, I was a waitress for YEARS.

I feel the people that are complaining the most about you doing this have never had to deal with really picky eaters!! :sad2: I say go do whatever is right for YOUR family and enjoy YOUR vacation!! It is vacation and sometimes we do things we might do in everyday life.

I have to agree about taking up a table for 6, when only 2 are eating, and about the server losing out. If I really wanted to go and my 3 were not interested in the food, I would go, but leave the server a decent extra tip---say $10 or so.

We have gone to Bomas and brought out 3 yr old (picky eater) twins a pop-top ravioli meal to split--they ate a total of 4 bites. We took up a 4 top table, but most tables were 4 tops, even if only 2 were dining. We tipped the server extra.

I think its fine, but I would tip the server loosely based on what they would have gotten if the whole party had been eating. Say an extra $2-3 per non eating child. That way the server is not losing out. As for the family of 5 that maybe didn't get to eat at that restaurant since all the tables were taken, it is still the same outcome whether the people who did get the table are all eating or not. The one poster did bring up a good point about the server losing out on their tip. So if you tip the server based on the meal that could have been so to speak, that takes care of them. I mean in the end, what could this family do? Order food that is wasted? Big possible morality discussion there. Leave the kiddies out roaming the park on thier own? Another moral discussion to be had.

And I waited tables too.

And I have on occasion not ordered for my kids back in the day and always tipped extra.

Just a friendly reminder to keep the debate on topic and not resort to personal attacks. :)

I don't see anything wrong with you doing that, however I would maybe order 1 child's meal for the kids to split, and encourage them to give it a try. It's only $5.75 for a kid's sweet & sour chicken (the sauce is on the side).
Have fun at Disney!
