Would I be crazy to go 8 mos prego

I highly doubt your OB will let you know and I personally wouldn't. That is so much walking and you will probably be extremely uncomfortable. I would reschedule.

I am also a L&D nurse and I agree with the other nurses. No one plans on premature labor, premature rupture of membranes, abruption, etc.--but it happens more than you think. I've had several patients who were visiting family or worse just passing through while traveling when an emergency happened. They are stuck in a hospital far from their home and depending on the case may be there for a while or deliver and the baby be in NICU. When I was pregnant with my first I wasn't a nurse and had no idea of all the things that can go wrong and go wrong fast. My 2nd pregnancy I was a nurse and knew what could happen and guess what--emergency c-section at 36 weeks and believe me that's one time I'm glad I was home instead of at Disney! So give this some serious thought:)

I had a "Planned c-section " for 2 out of my 3 and both times they arrived before the planned time. I was miserable my last month and I definitely would have needed a wheelchair to do disney. I think that you should cancel and go when the baby is a couple of months old and everyone will have a better time.

As a nurse I'd say "NO WAY". I really don't think your doctor will give you the OK and even if he does the airlines would not. All four of my grandkids were born a little early and my oldest GD was born at 5 1/2 months premature. None of my three D-I-L's planned on early births.:rolleyes1 My eldest GD belongs to my eldest son. He is divorced from her mom and remarried. When he called me last June to tell me his second wife was in labor three weeks before her due date, he was almost frantic. I had to reassure him that a three week early baby was not near as bad as a 3 1/2 month early baby. He said he didn't think he could handle having a baby in the neonatal ICU for almost three months like he did the first time. I can only imagine if any of my D-I-L's had gone into labor while out of state.

I've had 3 children and I know I would have been miserable walking that much at that point in my pregnancies - with oldest dd I was lucky to walk through the grocery store to grab 1-2 items. All 3 were also delivered at 37 weeks.

If I'm remembering right, my ob's (different ones with all 3) advised against travelling during the last months of pregnancy.

I would really think twice about it for all the reasons posted. I had an easy pregnancy with my first and would have been fine, though tired. But with both my boys, I ended up bleeding and on bedrest. I would have been terrified had it happened away from home. It was stressful enough here! I know pregnant women arent fragile, but after my expereince, I wouldnt want to be too far from home the last couple months! You can always plan to take your new baby soon!

Good luck and CONGRATS!

Another option to consider is... Can you move your trip up instead? Then you still get to go and enjoy Disney while your two year old is an only child, but you will probably be more comfortable and will definitely be further from your due date.

I'm 8 months prego now, due June 4th, and the idea of walking around Disney now gives me shivers... I'm ready for maternity leave already, but have 3 weeks to go, ugh! I agree with the other posters, talk with you doc and check w/ airlines, but personally I think it would be too strenuous. I've been doing yard work (pulling out all of the ivy before summer) and can only do one day a week because for the 2-3 days following I can barely move with all of the back pain, sciatica, etc. I'm typically very active, I ran 30 miles a week up until my 6th week of pregnancy, I work full time 12 hour shifts as a staff nurse and I always feel like I got ran over the next day. My previous pregnancy wasn't as bad, and you never know what could happen or how you'll feel as each pregnancy is verrrry different.

If you don't want to cancel, at least get trip insurance, and expect to sit or swim during most of the vacation... Maybe you could rent a wheelchair and have someone push you around the park, I might consider going if I knew I could do that, but it's still a big 'might'.

There is absolutely no way I would do it. Having said that, my SIL went on a beach vacation to a very rural area in Mexico at 8 months--and she and her husband are doctors! She's also a rock climber and does yoga and runs everyday, so she's kind of a superwoman. She was fine; the rest of us were worried for her!

Good luck with your pregnancy and whatever you choose.

I wouldn't do it. I'd just change it for one year later & you can take your healthy 1yo with you! :goodvibes

I traveled when I was eight months with DD. The only reason my ob let us go any where was because my father in law died and we needed to get to my DH's mom's house pronto. Also, i had a doctor in our home town, but unless it was an emergency i wouldn't do it. Congrats and good luck.

When I was pregnant, I was due on Feb 9. I ended up driving 8 hours to visit family for Christmas. The doctor didn't tell me not to, but wasn't 100% for it. The night we got back, I went into pre-term labor. I think I was 35 weeks, so they stopped the labor successfully (they said if I was 36 weeks they wouldn't have tried to stop it). Everything ended up OK, but it was scarey. What ended up happening was I caught a virus while traveling, threw up only twice when we got back and within 4 hours, I was in labor. They said that dehydration can cause labor. It is a tough decision, but I am sure you will do what is best for your family. Congrats on the pregnancy:cheer2:.

Check with your insurance company. I know that when I was pregnant that my insurance would not pay as much if I was more than two hours away from my preapproved hosptial and drs within 2 or 3 months of my due date (forget specifics). I think that all charges reverted to out of network with high deductible and copay.

not to mention playing the doctor lottery if you do delivery - no telling who may be on call for the hospital - He/she may not be the best one they have.
Plus there is the out of pocket exspense of somewhere to stay for you DH and DD while you are in hospital and possibly for you too if baby stays longer

I will be 28-29 weeks along when I go to Disney at the end of May. My doctor was okay with it (her cut off is 36 weeks). In addition, I asked the doctor that did my comprehensive ultrasound and he just said make sure DH understands that I will need to take breaks and that my 3 y/o will not be able to be carried.

I wouldn't. I would either try and move my trip up, or go after the baby arrives!!

Congratulations!:cheer2:

Another thing to consider, if you have an HMO or PPO, is if Orlando is out-of-network. You could end up spending thousands.

However, Celebration Hospital is beautiful. My DD was born there. They take good care of you there.
