Would I be able to rent DVC so close to check in date?

Dh has just decided that he wants to stay on property for our Christmas trip. I'd like to rent DVC points. However, we're using a bonus I get from work to pay for our vacation. So I wouldn't have it until November. If we book a regular WDW package right now, we can put down the $200 deposit, and then pay the balance when I get my bonus. (It's before the 45 day deadline.)

Is it completely insane to hope for DVC rental availability at Christmas time, that close to the date?

You could always try, but your choice of resorts would be very limited. I do know that stayatwdw had Christmas specials right now so there could be something open. It might be doable with a split stay if you are open to that.

It will be very difficult to get anything for Christmas. Most members book their holiday stay 11 months out or seven months out at the latest. You are only four months out. And by November, there is no way you'll find anything at all. The member won't wait until November to be paid.
