Would DCL be able to make certain drinks a certain way if you have food allergies to coconut? Because I was wondering about the Dole Whips aren't they made with coconut milk?
About how much are the drinks on DCL? What prices do they range from?

When we were on our last trip with the kids they were handing out Bahama Mamas. Again I did not drink because of the kids. We are kid free this time so I am just trying to get some ideas.

Dole Whips are from a pre-made mix, so no altering there.

Dole whip soft serve mix ingredients are as follows:

Sugar, Dextrose, Stabilizers (Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Coconut Oil, Contains 2% Or Less Of Each Of The Following: Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Natural & Artificial Flavor (contains Pineapple Juice Powder), Modified Food Starch, Malic Acid, Beta Carotene (Color), Mono & Diglycerides, Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking).

Any craft cocktail can be made without any elements of coconut. Premixed on the other hand may be another story.

There are often drink specials in the morning on bloody Mary's and mimosas, usually about four dollars each. The drink of the day is about five dollars, and drinks go up from there. If there's a formal captains night, they often do have a reception beforehand are drinks are passed out. These are pre-made ahead of time and I'm not sure you could get a specialty drink for free then.

Cost: I think the drinks of the day (listed in the personal navigator) were $4.95 (For the discounted drink of the day: I had a Mai Tai on embarkation day and a Seabreeze on my last day at sea). The regular price for some cocktails is in the $6-$8 range. Specialty martinis/drinks are around $11. All drinks from the bar will have an automatic 15% gratuity added to them.

However since I suspect coconut is a frequently used ingredient in the bars, I would be very very careful about drinks just because of the chance of cross contamination.
We had an intern at work that had severe food allergies, and just walking into a room where they had been used and she would start getting a reaction.

As already pointed out, Dole Whip (which isn’t a drink) is made from a pre-made mix. But a Bahama Mama should be able to be modified to exclude the coconut rum. HOWEVER, I would only ask for it at a bar directly where I could watch the bartender make it myself, and not through a server or one of the drinks passed out on deck.

Enjoy your cruise!

I agree! DCL does a great job of handling food allergies in the dining areas. We have found bartenders and drink servers, not so much - even when we have asked. My sister has several fruit allergies and we have had some issues. Luckily her allergies are not severe; a small sip/taste will cause a minor reaction so she knows it contains something she shouldn't have and she can stop before she has a full blown reaction.

One drink she ordered (on a server recommendation - the list of ingredients given sounded safe), she didn't realize they used some peach in the mix. She's okay with peaches but is allergic to apricot. She was getting a reaction to the drink and alerted the server. The bartender came over to tell her that her drink did not contain anything she was allergic to. This got us concerned about what she was reacting to - wanted to make sure it was a known allergen and not something else that we needed to avoid, especially when they listed the ingredients several times and all sounded okay. It wasn't until the 4th or 5th time they listed ingredients that they included peach puree. We assumed that was the culprit but the bartender insisted that it was 100% peach. He insisted to the point he made it sound like he mashed the peaches himself and implied that they didn't use anything canned. (I don't know if he was afraid we were going to get him in trouble or sue over the issue; we really just wanted to be sure what it was we needed to avoid at the bar and around the ship.) Finally, they did bring out the can of Peach Nectar (or something like that). She showed them that it listed "natural flavors" and knows many peach flavored items actually use apricot juice for that "natural" flavoring. The bartender thought that when it said "natural" that it meant peach only. We were relieved - known allergen; bartender learned something.

That is good to know. I have many food allergies.

Good to know I'm not a big drinker but I have a lot of food allergies so the more I know before I cruise the better. Thank you.
