Would anyone not stay at WL

Lulu's Mom,

I'm staying in a standard room in Dec 2006 and can't wait. Everyone says that it's really nicely decorated for the holidays then.

We stayed there Dec 2004. It was beautiful!! It was breathaking!! The best resort during the Holidays!

I couldn't recommend it enough, especially with small children. The theming will keep them interested everytime you are there.

The WL does not appeal to me in the heat of the summer. I just can not get into the unique theme with that great fireplace when it's 100 degrees outside. Even though they really crank up the cool air over there.

In the summer I much prefer the lighter themed resorts like Beach Club, etc.

However during the cooler months and especially during the holidays it is a favorite of mine, second only to the Grand Floridian.

We stayed there Dec 04 and while I liked it, we will not rush back.

The problem for us is the lack of good places to eat. We have no desire to go to "Whoopin' Hollerin' Canyon" and thought Roaring Fork was dark, smelly and the food just not very good. Artist Point is a fine place, but not for repeat meals.

We much perfer the BC and BW with the huge number of food choices. We llike the decor better in both, too.

I personally have no desire to stay there because I live in Michigan and the "feel" is similar to some of the cabins that I stay in up north. When I visit Florida in the winter I don't need the cozy fireplace because I just left one. I prefer a more tropical/ocean feel.

We did a split stay this summer with the Wilderness Lodge and the Polynesian. They are both so different, but we loved each of them.

I have pictures of both, plus Caribbean Beach Resort and the Grand Floridian, on my web site. The link is below.

With all the different themes and price ranges of the WDW resorts, there is a resort for just about everyone's tastes and budget. Have a wonderful trip :sunny:

WL does not appeal to me, but for purely cosmetic reasons. I live in the north and when I go to Florida I want the novelty of something different. I don't want woods and trees, I want beach themed, or Africa themed, or giant gaudy Disney figure themed. :teeth:

I'm sure it's beautiful, just as everyone describes. It's just not for me.

I have stayed at WL three times. We'll be back in November.

I like that the resort is all under one roof. To me, that means less walking. Shorter distance to transportation, pool, snacks or meals and the room. You walk all day long at the parks.

Consider what you most desire in a resort.

If you plan to eat most of your meals at your hotel, maybe WL does not off enough in-house options. Roaring Forks was adequate for a fast food type stop. WCC is a boisterous atmosphere that reflects entertainment style dining and AP was quiet, relaxing (even with kids!) and delicious. My DSs loved the pool and slide. Transportation was never a problem. My commuting DH was more than happy not to drive for a week! We loved the theming despite the fact that we live in the country back home. It was a quiet respite from the sensory overload of the parks, not to mention breathtakingly beautiful.

Everyone has a favorite, WL is ours! :goodvibes

WL doesn't appeal to us either. Maybe its b/c we feel like Orlando Fl should be sun and beach and palm trees so the whole dark, forest thing bums us out. We would choose almost any other resort over WL just based on it's theme.

we've never been there, and it's likely that we never will, mainly based on our stay at (the very similar from what i've seen in pics/been told) AKL... we were not wow'd by AKL and preferred pop and pofq more... given that the two lodges are similar, it will keep us away from WL...

plus, i agree w/the posters that want florida to feel like florida, disneyworld to feel like disneyworld... not like yellowstone! LOL! also, i've heard some bad stories about the transport to all parks 'cept MK...

We wont be back unless we stay in a Junior Suite, or one of the Villas. The rooms there are just too small for us....

Which is a shame, because we absolutely LOVE everything else about it!

Are they that small???? We have only stayed at All Stars and CSR resort thus far and were looking for rooms that were a bit bigger, but I assumed that being a deluxe resort that the rooms at WL would be bigger than the rooms at the moderates and values.... is this not correct?

Thanks

That's how I feel about CS. I keep think it looks beautiful but since it is so much like home (SW Texas) I want something different. To answer the OP's questions, that is why WL WOULD appeal to me. We don't have anything like it (or AKL for that matter) here at home.

That is my home DVC resort and we just stayed there for the first time - every other time we have stayed at BWV and OKW - DH told me we had to stay there once - I got very upset about a month before our trip b/c I knew it was not what I wanted - he figured it would be okay b/c I had no expectations

It is a beautiful resort but it wasn't for me - I didn't feel like I was in Florida - my kids weren't interested in the theming - except running over the bridge EVERY time we went near the lobby

Roaring Fork always had a line a mile long and I felt like the resort was too far off the beaten path

DH and I LOVE LOVE LOVE BW - we went over there on our last day and I felt at home - I instantly felt the energy of BW and felt like I was on a Florida vacation. I also love the restaurant choices - proximity to other resorts and to Epcot and MGM

If you love the Wilderness and camping and the lodge feel I would go for it - but if you are worried about it appealing to you - your instincts are probably correct -

I am always willing to try a hotel once - it is a Disney hotel and staying there certainly did not ruin our vacation!

The regular rooms at WL are 340 sq ft, which is the same as the rooms at Caribbean Beach Resort. CBR has the largest rooms of the moderates, Port Orleans and Coronado Springs rooms are smaller.

So basically, Yes, WL rooms are bigger than All Stars and CSR and Port Orleans, but not as big as the other deluxe resorts, except AKL, which has the same sized rooms.

I have pictures of our WL room on my website, take a look so you can get an idea of the size.

We thought it was OK.

The food was definitely an issue. Just not many good choices. RF was GROSS!

We HATED the transportation. A typical journey to the MK took 45 minutes by boat and YOU COULD see the darn thing the whole time! Most annoying commuting experience ever!

our room at AKL seemed smaller than our room at POFQ... the bathroom area was definitely bigger and the hallway from door to main part of the room was longer, but as far as floorspace/luggage storage/etc, it did not seem as roomy... overall, we were disappointed and wished we had stayed put at POFQ! the small feeling might also have something to do w/the darkness... our room at PO was light and airy feeling whereas AKL was dark and closed in feeling...

The lobby is beautiful, but we felt the rooms were small and overall did not rate the "term" deluxe like the Poly or CR. While the AKL rooms were just as small but with the animals there was much more to see and do, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes so it's great that there are so many choices? Enjoy where ever you stay!
