Worrying about swine flu

I know its all being hyped up by the media but I can't help worrying that dh and I will catch it, I'm not scared of dying from it but I'm worried that we will catch it just before we go on holiday! We have been looking forward to our holiday for so long that I'm worrying that we will get it just before and then won't be able to go I feel like locking us away for the next 3 weeks

I know just how you feel, Jen ~ WDW holidays are so important that I always worry too! I don't worry the same if we're going to DLRP because you don't have to plan like at WDW and it's so much easier to get there so much easier to reschedule if necessary.

Last time we went to WDW I wouldn't let my DD go iceskating the month before in case she broke her leg!

I feel exactly the same, we go a week on Monday and my hubbie's work colleague's Dad and brother have it, though she has left home and hasn't been to see them I think.

Jen I was convinced I had it this week, I am such a paranoid freak, Ians not very well now either, I think we have both had nasty colds, but at the first cough I freaked !

I know the feeling.
Weeks before we went away and it was all over the media I didn't want to go then it died down and I was fine,it was only when we got to MCO I saw a lady scoot past wearing a mask I was thinking "eek"..then we come home with the swine flu,not a great thing to bring home with you I'm just glad the symptoms came on once home rather than out there.

But like many have said the normal seasonal flu is deadly but not as hyped about like this swine flu.

Just think of the lovely holiday you will have. It hasn't put me off I am looking at holidays right now

Jen-i hear ya.I am a worrier,sometimes so extreme it upsets me thinking about some things.This flu does worry me an awful lot as well,i hope you are able to go on your hols 'ill free' .If i could i would stay locked in the house with my family until it's gone.We went out today+i would'nt let my girls touch the lift buttons,hold on the escalator rails etc...
When we went at Easter,we had no idea about this Swine Flu until 2 days after we arrived home when it was all over the news and papers .To know we had been there and not know anything about it was a little frightning-especially when me+Dd4 become very ill.x.

This is probably really weird but I just want to get it now and it be over then I don't have to worry about getting it either before or while were on holiday.

Since people have been diagnosed with it in my office (and I work in a public building) I think it will spread really quickly.

I totally agree gemmybear, I would have rather had it before I went away on holiday because I think being on a plane must increase your chances of getting it greatly. However, none of us have caught it yet, touch wood, so hoping to remain clear of it.

I was thinking that, if we could just get it now then by the holiday it would all be over and we wouldn't have to worry. The worst time to get it will be either a couple of days before we go or whilst there, not looking forward to the plane journey as if anyone has it on there I'm sure it will spread easily. I went to Boots today and bought several bottles of hand sanitizer and anti bacterial wet wipes, my plan is that from the week before we go to start using those to hopefully minimise the chance of getting it. Dh thinks I've totally lost the plot!

The trouble is Jen you cannot stop breathing and I think this is the way you will catch it so try not to worry. I feel exactly like you but it is sort of out of my hands other than being a total recluse. For me the danger spot is the plane but I have to go on it to get there.

Yep. that's my biggest worry too - not that there's anything I can do about it, but I'm just concerned we'll get it out there and be too poorly for the cruise

well we are back a few days and guess what we brought home with us........yes ds(9)has caught swine flu!!! really pleased we managed to avoid it during the holiday though.

I think it's better to get it and be done with it. DH and I run a shop and there are always people in sneezing and spluttering everywhere so I am just waiting for it, I have a bottle of hand sanitizer on the counter too, but I think it's just a mater of time!

I wasnt worried about it, but I had bad dreams about it last night and now Im scared for morgan and the new baby.

being pregnant tamiflus a no no for me, plus Im chronic astmatic, and morgan so small

We thought the same thing,thank god we wasnt poorly on holiday.

I'm petrified of catching it.

Part of me wants to get it and be over and done with, but i dont want DD to catch it..so its a loss either way for me

I'm really worried about my brother if he catches it as he has a heart condition and is in the risk category.

I also want to get is before our holiday! As if not I'm going to be so paranoid of getting it on the plane and then losing days out of our trip!

I thought I has it the start of this week as I've had a pretty bad, chesty cold, and I am kinda gutted now that it wasn't swine flu.

Hopefully I'll get it in the next two months!

I work with lots of germy small children and my bf works in busy office with lots of germy adults *lol* so either of us could get it quite easily I imagine, there's already been at least one confirmed case at the bf's work and the guy is currently staying with his mum because his partner is pregnant! If I get it i'll be a bit annoyed as it'll mean taking time off sick (which I really hate doing as i'm an agency worker so if I don't work I don't get paid ) but better than having it for our holiday I suppose.
