Much like sarcasm, some people just don't get hyperbole. I'm quite sure no one things an island will capsize due to overpopulation, at least I hope not. If they do, then they are a moron.

Anyone else see the video of GA Rep. Hank Johnson. They are talking about put a base in Guam.

During the House Armed Services Committee hearing on Friday, he said he was worried that Guam would tip over and capsize due to overpopulation. :confused3:confused3 :dance3::dance3:

Is this April Fools joke?? I hadn't heard anything about this

Well first of all, there already is a base in Guam. I've been there. There are actually more than 1 base :)

Second. April Fools

Not an April Folls joke.
This guy is a maroon.
Kind a makes you wonder about our elected officials.....

Yep, this is just one of Rep. Johnson many nuggets. He has been in the news a few times for some of the things that has come out of his mouth.

And just think, these people think they can FIX banks, auto, healthcare, student loans, ect.

This is not an April Fools joke. We heard about it on Monday. Glad I finally got to see the video. Thanks!!!!

He's suffering from Hepatitis C and is in bad shape physically. There is speculation that it is affecting his brain. It is really quite sad.

If that incredible...confusion...is due to illness, then yes, it is truly very sad. There is nothing funny about dementia, whether due to age or illness.:guilty:

But seriously, if he's affected to that degree, should he be working? Making LAWS??? I hope he has aides who go over his work or something. :sad2:

...we were there too, made me think for a sec..is there more than 1 Guam?! Oy...loved going to the beach every weekend!

Dubai has all those completely man-made islands. I'm sure they'd be able to figure something out.

Now, if they can only raise Atlantis. Then they can use it as a naval base. ;)

Why? It's not as though most of the current crop bothers to read the stuff either - everything is basically a party-line vote. :sad2:

:lmao: Ok, this gave me the silly giggles!

I saw/heard about this this morning.

No, it's not April Fool's.

No, it's not sarcasm or hyperbole. He actually is very serious.

Kudos to the Admiral who managed to keep a straight face AND reply respectfully. I couldn't have done it.

I know it goes against the party mentality in DC, but sometimes the party leaders should step up and inform people that they shouldn't run again or should leave. Cut their party funding, etc. This poor man is obviously too sick to serve - yet is serving on the Armed Services Committee helping make decisions about out military! Robert Bryd and Strom Thurman both should/should have been pushed out as well. That goes against the "old boys' club" mentality that is still very prevelant in DC. It's sad. People who make our laws should be competent (of course, DC would be a very empty place with that requirement!)

Our son (he's 40) was just telling us about it...Throw the bums out!!! Hurry up November!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I agree...it's really sad that a person who is so sick is allowed to continue making decisions that affect our Armed Forces...
I used to live in Guam when I was in the Navy. I hope I can go back to visit before it capsizes.
It's a beautiful island.

Regardless of what his office is claiming, if you watch the video it is QUITE clear it was not a metaphor or hyperbole. The comment is made following a bunch of redundant babbling about the size of the island. The man is obviously senile, which is sad, but he needs to step down.

I taught a subject in which islands were discussed. The students were high school aged and mostly college bound. You would not believe how many of them thought islands were essentially big old hunks of dirt (or sand) just floating around in water, not connected to anything. :headache: Sometimes I'd draw a cross-section/side view to explain it. Sometimes I asked them to picture a mountain and then imagine a flood cutting that mountain off from the rest of the land around it, so that only the upper portion was visible since all the land around it was now underwater. That usually made them understand the concept of an island. Finally, I'd ask them to think about this.....If an island really was just a big old hunk of dirt floating around in the ocean, would it make sense that when new maps are charted, the islands are in the same place instead of having floated off somewhere across the ocean? That usually got an, "Ooooooohhhhhh!!!"

Anyone from the Fourth Congressional District in Georgia? Hank Johnson is running for a third term, he announced his bid for re-election in January. Please tell me you have other, better options for representation.
