Tuesday I get a call saying my 23 yr old nephew needs emergency surgery. They think appendix, but he's not a text book case so they planned on opening him, looking around and finding out. I rushed myself and my kids up to Cleveland and got there 15 mins before they wheeled him into the OR. I'm pleased to say he did well in surgery. I went in to see him the next day and he was up and about, looking healthy and tolerating food. So I gave him my love and prayers and headed home.
I was home no longer than 3 hours when my mom called. My other nephew, 13 yrs old, was taken into a hospital in N.C. (Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte) with meningitis. They are ruling out bacterial meningitis.
Their dumb aunt (prior RN) was alright with the diagnosis and treatments that he had so far (Rocephin in the ER, steriods, Vancomycin when he was admitted, etc etc) but then, in an attempt to refresh myself on meningitis, I did an internet search. Now I'm stressed!! 20-30% of patients die, 50% of survivors experience complications as a result: deafness, paralysis, mental retardation, etc etc.
So I am trying so hard to leave this in God's hands, His will be done and all of that....but at the same time my mind is racing and I'm scared for Bryan's future.....EVEN THOUGH WE DON"T KNOW THE DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS!! How RIDICULOUS is this??? We may know some results from his spinal tap later tonight, possibly not until tomorrow. If it is bacterial, I'm feeling a trip to NC is in order.
Thanks for letting me vent and share my concerns. It's helpful to type this all out.
God bless
