Okay We are staying at Shades of Green Thursday Nov. 17th and checking out on Wed Nov. 23nd. We are then checking in on the 23nd and checking out of the Pop On Sat. Nov. 26th. I read a lot of reviews on the POP last night and SEEMS THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE PLACE. The only reason I am doing it is FOR THE KIDS. They are 14, 11 and 6. We have ressies for the full time at SOG but I was going to call and cancel the rest of the week and stay at POP. I am actually paying twice a much those last three nights to stay at POP.....it will cost us 99 plus tax per room at POP so about 220 a night where is SOG is 106 with no tax and one room is plenty big. THE REASON FOR STAYING AT POP is because they want DISNEY THEMING AND BEGGED US LAST TRIP IN JAN. for POP. So I thought it might be a nice surprise. WE have stayed at several DISNEY places in past trips but the SOG is sooooooo much cheaper and the rooms are HUGE and the hotel is soooo nice but I too miss THE DISNEY TOUCH.

Has anyone stayed at POP recently...or the week of Thankgiving and can give me feedback on buses and food court. We are planning on trying for 50's or 70's building. I have heard that if you get close to the pool....IT IS NOISY.....and so I am not sure what to do.

Here's my take on POP:

We stayed there in '04, in the 50's building, and really enjoyed it. The theming was really wonderful. Pools were clean, room was clean, food court/gift shop was unique and fun. We got a kick out of watching the cast members do the Hustle.

My one and only complaint was that the walls between rooms are apparently made of Kleenex. We could hear every single sound from the next room. I'm positive they could hear us just as clearly.

I have stayed at Pop in Nov. 04 and then in March 05 and really enjoyed both times. I never had a problem with the buses. Just at the end of the night at Magic Kingdom, after the fireworks we should have hung out on Main Street for a bit because we waited in a really long line to get back to the resort.

The food Court is really great and loved the gift shop. The rooms are very clean and the pools are heated. I have stayed both times in the 80'/90's section and quite enjoyed it because it wasn't a long walk to the bus area.

The arcade was hopping too my Dis Sister 14 loved it. She was there quite often.

I enjoyed it - stay in '04 and '05 - so far 4 different times.

It is a fun place for both you and your kids. walk down the memory lane for a bit.

I would try for the year you were born. more memories that way.

Got back yesterday. We loved Pop. Even more than I thought I would. We stayed in one of the 50's bldgs. At the end of the pool. It was a bit of a hike to the food court, but being able to see some of IllumiNations from around the corner from my room was wonderful. The pools were terrific and not very crowded. The food court was less congested than I thought it would be. All in all I would stay there again in a heatbeat.

dont be worried about staying at pop it is the best...we love it there...only place we wanna stay now...the themes are great..the atomosphere is fun...you will have a great time...

We stayed at SOG in May and to be honest I didn't care for it. We just returned from POP yesterday and we LOVED it!!!I don't think you'll be disappointed. I don't know about the buses, as we always rent a car. We were in the 50's on the 4th fl and noise was not a problem. Your kids will love it!!!

I think most of the people that enjoy value style resorts love the Pop. I think it is missing a few amenities that those used to staying at the Moderates or deluxe have become accustomed to so I can understand if they find it a bit lacking. Doesn't make the Pop (or all stars) a bad place to stay

I've never been uphappy with anything Disney does - they are just good at customer service. And I have found all hotels are clean enough, etc.
Food courts are just that - but we all go to them, even in malls!!! ha!

Give it a try - you won't know if YOUR family likes  it until you do.

I just spoke with a woman yesterday who recently stayed at Pop. She loved it. She stayed in the 60's building and said it was awesome. The pool is flower shaped and they played fun music. Her ONLY complaint, and she said it wasn't even a big deal, was the music playing until midnight. Other than that, she said it was REALLY, REALLY great. :sunny:

I stayed at Pop in 2004 in the 70's building and had a great time. Give it a try. I think you and your children will enjoy it. (I know people complain about paper thin walls, but I never had any trouble).

I stayed at POP In March 05 for a week.. We had a poolside room in the 50's section- the building with Tramp/ Directly next to the main building with the food court and such. We were also on the top floor.
Whenever we checked in the lady told us they had 1350 check-ins that day alone and that the resort would be at capacity.

My mother and I were perfectly happy with our room at POP- being on the top floor we didn't have the noise from the rooms above us and the noise from the pool was more distant- it was just a very muted background noise. Several people have complained about being able to hear plumbing but we didn't hear a thing.. I'm even going back there this December, I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

what she said

Are you a family of 5? That will be way too crowded in the rooms at POP, especially for a week. Just my opinion.

We were there for a week in February and absolutely loved it. I would go back in a second, but my dh wanted to upgrade so we bought into DVC for future trips.

Really feels like Disney. And 50's buildings are close to everything.

I just think you may feel crowded as the rooms are pretty small.

We stayed there 2 weeks ago and loved it. The buses were great for us and we no more then 15 minutes. The food court wasn't crowded and the food was fine. I didn't hear the people next to us but we're heavy sleepers. we had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to go again.

We stayed at POP last year and enjoyed it very much. No complaints from us. And, this was right after all those hurricanes came through. If at anytime they would have had a good reason to let us down that was it, but they definitely did not let us down at all.

On the other hand, we have stayed at SOG in the past. To put it mildly, our experience there was less than satisfactory.

We are actually getting two rooms...a king adjoining a double room. So it will be enough room that way.

thanks for the advice

We stayed in Pop just this past April w/adjoining rooms w/my BIL family--we never heard them or anyone else. BTW we were on the fourth floor in the 80's section facing the computer pool. One night there were some loud kids in the pool--the CM's came and closed down the pool shortly after--it was around midnight.

The food court was okay, gift shop was very nice. My DS looooved the arcade!!! Everything was super clean. The theming was cute and the grounds were nice. Bus service was very good, especially considering we were there during spring break. We had a great time there. ;)

I think they are getting 2 rooms at Pop. The OP said the cost would be $220 per night at Pop. With 2 rooms, they should have plenty of space.

ETA - Sorry - I did not see the posts on page 2 before posting this. :bitelip:

I have stayed at POP three times, once in the 60's and twice in the 70's. It was great. We are going back in December and I keep thinking we should try a moderate (before POP we stayed at ASMU quit a few times), but we don't spend that much time in the room, and I just can't bring myself to spend the extra money on a room. I am debating POP vers POR. I need to decide soon.

The only thing with POP is, that at Christmas time, parking is difficult if you get back to POP late.

Stayed at POP this past Jan. It was terrific, would stay there again. Your family will enjoy their stay.

couple of suggestions though:

if you're a light sleeper, bring some sort of white noise machine, even a small fan that's loud and ask to not be facing the pool

don't bother with the "preferred" rooms-they're not worth it. 50's and 70's buildings are good choices for close proximity to the parking lots, food courts, etc.
