Worried About POR

I'll probably get flamed for posting my negativity but whatever.

I am scheduled to stay at POR 1/10-14/08 while at Disney for the marathon. I'm suddenly having serious cold feet about it. I came across multiple complaints regarding POR having issues with bedbugs--GAK!!! I know that any hotel can have them and just because they are in one room doesn't mean they are in all rooms but still, there seem to be more than a few complaints about POR. I can tolerate just about any other bug/spider infestation but the idea of bedbugs is horrifying to me.

Sadly, as of right now all of the other moderates are booked and I don't really have the finances to step it up to a deluxe. Does anyone know what the odds are of rooms opening up do to cancelled reservations? Am I more likely to catch a room cancellation by calling versus going through the Disney Web site? If I'm stuck at POR I will just inspect my room really carefully (as I do wherever I go). It would just give me peace of mind to change resorts even though I know I could still run into problems at another resort.

I just returned from POR and it was great. The room was very clean, we had a great housekeeper. I would not worry about it at all.

I can't imagine Disney allowing bedbugs anywhere! (Gasp!). We stayed at POR in 2004 and absolutely loved it...and there was nary a bug to be seen. One would think that w/ all the lush greenery around the buildings (especially the Alligator Bayou section), pests would be a problem but they certainly werent when we were there. My SIL has been to disney every year since 1993 and up until 2000, when she purchased her DVC membership, they stayed at POR (aka Dixie landings) numerous times. It was always her favorite of the moderate resorts, and still is.

But if it gives you peace of mind to change, you should do it.

I stayed there in July and had no problems and we were in the mansions. I am staying there again in January and requested AB. I have no problem going back. It was very clean for us when we were there.

Bedbugs can turn up anywhere - they have as much or as little likelihood of being in a POR room as in any other WDW room. No reason to change resorts - just do your check and report any problems to management. :thumbsup2

I loved POR when I stayed there in '06. It will be great, don't worry.

I was very worried too before we stayed at POR - I had read some reports of bed bugs and bad mousekeeping. We decided to stick it out and loved it! We checked the mattresses for bed bugs. Mousekeeping was a little lax but OK and the resort itself is beautiful. There are mostly positives here, so please don't worry. Bob at the lounge is loads of fun (way more than we thought he would be), the food court is not bad, and the boat to Downtown Disney is amazing (much much much better than trying to catch a bus back to your resort from DD). The only reason I can think of that someone might not like this resort is if you don't like the theme, and I'm sure you've already checked that out! good luck

I had bed bugs in my bed at Beach Club and at CBR, so don't bother switching, it can happen at any of the resorts. POR is fine, no need to switch.

I was just like you and wanted to switch at the last minute. It did not happen. Try not to fret about it. It is nice and clean. We found a bug in our bed as I was stripping off the sheets and I freaked out. The management was not as friendly as the CM, however he did do as promised and had an inspection done immediatly and it was some fish bug thing that he said we likely carried in from the outside. My husband was convinced, but I was ready to switch to the mansion side where I was convinced there were less bugs. LOL:rotfl: The mousekeeping did a great job and the resort was really nice. Overall it is a nice place to stay, try not to let it ruin your vacation and soak up the place for what it is worth!:goodvibes

Okay, stupid question. How do you check for bedbugs? Are they easily visible to the naked eye?

POR is a lovely resort. We had a great time....no bugs.

To check for bed bugs lift up the sheets and look in the stitching of the matress for little red brown spots. Do a google search for bedbugs its usefull information to have if you travel alot.

Good luck

We have stayed at POR 3 times in the last year, and have had no bug issues of any kind. You will love POR. Enjoy your trip.

We stayed at POR in late September and had a WONDERFUL time! We even got a free upgrade to a king bed, water view room! :thumbsup2 At first we were nervous about the distance to the main bldg but found the walk to be very quick and loved the quiet this bldg provided us with!

Im sure that you will enjoy this resort as much as DH & I did!

We were at POR in October and had no issues with bed bugs. We were in the AB section, and I did check in the stitching! Guess I was a little paranoid!:scared1: Found nothing! Rooms were very clean so no need to worry!!!:goodvibes

We stayed at POFQ in November and our room was so filthy I don't think that the bed bugs would have even survived amongst all the filth!!!

We have stayed in the AB section 2 years in a row. We loved it! It is a beautiful resort and the food court had alot to choose from. Our room was very clean (and believe me, I am very fussy about cleanliness!)

Could you please be a little more specific. What was so filthy?:confused3
