I have a 6 year old lab who is starting to exhibit some strange behavior. During the past week, he seems to just be out of sorts. He's eating, etc. but he just seems to be acting strangely. We have all noticed it. We call him neurotic because he really is but it has got much worse. We seem to have times where we have to almost force him out to go. He at times seems restless. It's not all the time but when he's like this, it's very noticeable.
The newest is he seems to be getting lost in our backyard. Our yard is not that large and it's fenced in. He loves being outside. The past few days he seems to be wandering along the side of our house in an area that is only about 5' wide. There is privacy fence along the side there and in front connecting to the house. He is getting lost there. He will stay there and just sit and whine because "he feels stuck" and lost. We actually have had to go out and show him how to come back into the house. He will NOT come back without someone showing him. There's nothing there blocking him. He has no trouble finding his way there...but not back.
We were all talking about this last night and we are really starting to get worried. I really don't know what to think about all of this. How can he "forget" how to come back into the house? We've had him for about 4 years and nothing in our yard has changed since we got him. Any suggestions?
