HI, this may sound silly...but I'm kind of worried about my kids wearing shirts 2 disney (or anywhere in public) that have thier name printed on them. I'm problably just being way too over pretective but its kind of dangerous that complete strangers will know thier names? Any one else ever thought about this?

Yes, others have thought of it. Many people don't put their children's names on their shirts. Others love having personalized shirts. You need to do whatever you are most comfortable with. Have a great trip!

PaDisney02: I have a 2.5 yr old DD who will be just under 4 yr old when we go to Disney. I have chosen to have Lil' Princess on her shirts instead of her name because how do you explain to a 4 yr old that they shouldn't go with a stranger that knows their name especially since my DD has an unusual name.

It's best to do whatever you are comfortable with. We did have their names on some of their shirts and the kids loved them. I don't think very many people actually even realized the names were on them.

BUT, mine aren't little anymore (they were 11,9, 6 & 4when we went). Also, their names are on all of their sports uniforms so we were already used to having things personalized

I think you need to do what you feel comfortable with.

I thought the same thing when making shirts for my 2 boys for our last october trip. I made some shirts with their names and some without. When they wore shirts with their names, the CMs really made a big deal about introducing themselves to my boys and calling them by name. My boys loved it.

I'm very overprotective of my boys and watch them like hawks!! Since they would always be with me at WDW, I didn't have a problem putting their names on the shirts. I'd feel less comfortable having them wear the shirt to school when I'm not around and worry more about stranger danger.

Don't force yourself to do something that doesn't feel right just because the tshirt design looks cool. Designers can take off the names easily.

As the other poster have stated Do what you feel comfortable with for your family and the age of your children. My son is nine almost ten and that is not something that I am worried about as he will be with me the whole time. We also play sports and have his name on everything. As perviously stated any disigner can make things to suit your needs. they are very great here.

Have a great trip.

i thought the exact same thing when i was making shirts for our trip last year....DD was 4 and DS was 2. I was really worried about it and thougth for a long time if I really wanted to do it. But then i thougth about it and realized that the kids will be in the strollers with us the whole time, it's not like i'm letting them run around the parks alone. We are with them 24/7 when we are at Disney, so I felt safer. Plus I figured if someone was watching closely enough to see their names on their shirts, then they were close enougth to hear me say "DD don't touch that" "ds keep your hands to yourself" "dd don't pull your brothers shoe laces" "ds do not drop your mickey bar on your sister's toes" "DS and DD SIT DOWN IN THE STROLLER" :rotfl: They'll be able to figure out their names anyway.

I would never let my children play outside in shirts with their names on them. However, I do let them wear them when we are going some place as a family. At their young age - we are not planning to let them out of our sight in public.. . .so we don't see where it is adding any additional risk. At Disney we do resort to a stroller - even though they don't use one at home - to reduce chances of them wandering off. . .or leaving our sight. So the personalized shirts don't bother us there.

Our girls are identical twins - and it does seem to tickle them when people address them by their specific name, it adds to their magic. They were amazed last year when the Princesses could tell them apart. Often they get called "MickieMaddie" at home, as people are not always sure who is who.

I worry about the same thing, that's why we used "The Monkeybugs" on our shirts. It is the name that we use when letterboxing/geocaching, and it means something to our little family but nobody else. I told my daughter (my son is too little to even recognize the name) that if someone at Disney calls her that, it is not because they know her, it's because it's on her shirt. I worried more about my son, because at three he knows his first and last name, and if someone called him over using his name he would go (if he were lost I mean), but he would have no idea what they were talking about if they called him monkeybug.

I feel the same way so for our WDW trip next week I am having my girls wear shirts that say Big Sister and Little Sister instead of their names. DH has a Dad shirt and I have a Mom shirt. At home I am not as worried about them wearing shirts with their names on them because I will only let them wear them to certain places when they won't be out of our sight- like a birthday party that's closed to the public, etc.

On the other side of this same coin, my DS is autistic and non verbal. He uses a wheelchair while in Disney so he is always with us. He responds better (epecially with all of the extra help we get from CM's) when people call him by his name. I put his name on EVERYTHING so people will see it and call him by name.

I plan to have their names on their shirts but just not large enough for people to see from a distance.

We put the girls' nicknames on the shirts so we could see them from a distance. DH and I had Mommy and Daddy on the back of ours so they could see us if they ended up behind us. We had lots of comments from everyone which made it fun! Most days we had matching shirts so they could just look at their shirts to know what we were also wearing.

I was wondering the same thing! Thanks for posting the question. DD is 7, so I think on a Minnie shirt I will have her name....just to make it a little special. Any others, I'm just going with a design and maybe year.

I have thought about this as well. I am going to put their names on as I know that they will always be with us. Another thought is that anyone would only have to stand by us for a couple of minutes and they would know their names anyway.

Let me start first with, I have no children. I take other people's children to Disney with me. :lmao: My sister (grandmom) prefers that the twins (5 years old) not have their names on their shirts. The 9 year old is finally allowed to have her name on her shirt. For the younger one's we came up with Pixie Princess, Bella Princess, etc., so I could put names but not use their names. I wish we could put names on the twins. They aren't identical and I still can't tell them apart. :rotfl::scared1: As everyone has said, it's a personal decision. I already told the "big girls" (9 & 13) that they weren't going anywhere except in a ride line & I will be waiting at the exit, without me. However, they are thrilled to be away from Mom & Dad, so they are willing to put up with my overprotective behavior. :cloud9:Penny:hippie:

my son is 3 and yes i'm putting his name on his shirt but he is never out of my sight, if anyone comes close to my son i would question it. Between my mom, my husband and myself i feel we are very protective of my son. someone could over hear us talking and find out my sons name if they really wanted to. You would have to come really close to read the shirt because my son will be in a stroller or even walking he is small and noone would be allowed to be that close to my kids ever! so i think its fine but do what you are comfortable with

I have to agree with many others on this board. It is a personal decision. I feel safer having my daughter at Disney than anywhere else in the world. The security measures in place baffel me. I am active duty military and the security at WDW puts my base to shame.

My daughter is known by so many CMs that even if her name was not on her shirt she would still be addressed by name. Now at 4 she is not allowed to leave her mothers or my side, now that will change when we go on the cruise in sept.

We have made screen printed shirt for her 4th birthday that everyone wore that had her name. Because of finding the wonderfull DISigners on this board, the next trip will be the first for her to have her name on her own co-ordinating shirt, not matching.
