worried about bedwetting!

So my DD who is 5 - has only recently started to sleep without a pull-up at night. She is a VERY sound sleeper and terrified of the dark.. it took her a bit longer to go all night and stay dry. We are diligent about the drinks and stuff and making sure she uses the bathroom before bed.

This summer she started to sleep without a pull-up and and has only had 2 accidents, which is pretty good :) I remember my son was far worse! But now I'm worried about our trip in 2 weeks.

I know those disney days are tiring and I'm worried that she is going to pee the bed in the hotel room!!! At least she won't be sharing with her brother this time since I got the bunkbed room and she'll have the bottom bunk. A part of me says just put her in pullups for the trip, but I don't want to take steps backward. At the same time I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night because she has peed the bed and have to hassle housekeeping with this big mess (and oh, the smell!) Yick!!! My husband says I'm overthinking it and that she's been doing great for 3 months now and it shouldn't be an issue. I dunno about that.

What to do????

how does SHE feel about pull ups? She's at an age where she should be able to "get" there's no tired like disney tired, and she surely knows that she had those few accidents and that they're not her fault etc...

I say explain to her that she will be SO tired after a long day of having fun at the parks that she will definitely be more comfortable wearing the pull ups at bedtime, than waking up in the middle of the night and have to wait for housekeeping, lose sleep, and be tired and grumpy maybe the next day.

I don't look at it as a step backwards. It's not like she's newly potty trained and she's wearing panties some of the time and diapers or pullups other time kwim? She's old enough to understand (imo, of course. she's your child and you know her best :) )

Another option, would still be messy, but you could always ask housekeeping for a few extra sheets and get some "piddle pads" at Petco, they make them for large dogs and they will defintely cover the "pee zone" in a bunk bed. You could put that under your dd's sheet and see what happens. If she wakes up wet, you can change it quickly, toss the piddle pad and put the wet sheet into the tub for the night.

My daughter has been potty trained at night now for like a year, she never wore pull ups and (knock wood) never had a night accident, but I STILL wake her up every night before I go to bed and have her pee. Just in case. :)

It's all good. You're not overthinking, you just don't want her to be hassled and tired and grumpy the next day if she does pee. No big whoop :) It will all work out.

I would see how she is doing before you guys go. If you don't want to put her back in pull ups you could always pack some plastic trash bags to use as a bed liner and just get some extra sheets from mouse keeping just in case she had an accident so you wouldn't have to call them in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the tip about asking for extra sheets.

Does anyone know what size mattress the bunkbeds are? Twin, Full or some random size? I was thinking maybe even of bringing a plastic sheet/waterproof mattress pad.

She will agree to putting on a pullup for the plane ride (because she hates those airplane bathrooms - can't blame her..) so maybe she'll agree to one at night. I know that the other night I put one on her after she fell asleep early one night and when she woke up (dry) in the morning and saw she had a pull-up on she was really mad. She doesn't want to be a "baby" but ya kno these things happen.

They make adult incontinence pads that go on the bed. They ar bigger thsn the doggie ones and hold more liquid. I would get those and put them OVER the sheet using double stick tape to secure to the sheet. Take the pullups just in case, and if she has an accident, put them on. If not, leave the pad as a just in case. If she does have an accident all you will need to do is take off the pad, change her wet clothes, and slip on a pullup. NO wet sheets to deal with.

We had the same concern with our son. We just brought along a fitted plastic sheet protector, available at Wal-Mart or any store like that. Then we asked housekeeping for an extra set of sheets. It turned out that we didn't even need to use them, but if he had wet the bed, we would have pulled off the wet sheet and protector, put on the new sheets, and been back asleep in 5 minutes. I would not put her in pull-ups, as that may be a step backwards as you said. Once my son was out of pull-ups, he felt like they were for babies and would have been mortified to have to wear them again.

If it were me, unless it is some kind of extreme phobia about airplane batrooms, I wouldn't expect her to go in a pullup on the plane. To me that is more of a step backwards than asking her to wear one at night. If she is capable of usingthe bathroom on the plane without a major meltdown I would take her rather than reinforce the fact that she has the pullup option.

What kind of pullups is she wearing? The huggies kind that the littler kids wear? Or does she wear the "good nites" ones that are like underwear made for bigger kids? They're quiet and not swishy sounding like huggies pull ups and more like underwear.

But since she was angry about the pullup then yeah, I'd see what she thinks after you explain how tired she's going to be. You could also try waking her up before you guys turn in, if you think you'll be up much longer past her LOL!!

I *believe* the bunks are twin sized. :)

My 5 year old son has been trained at night since April, but still has accidents sometimes. We went away this summer for a week and I put him in Good Nites (we previously only used Huggies Pull UPs). I told him that we had to protect the hotel bed since he was sleeping in it with his brother and I bought special hotel overnight diapers. He went along with wearing them just while we were away. He never peed in them, but it gave me piece of mind that we wouldn't have to deal with an accident in the middle of the night. When we came home, they went back in my closet. I plan to bring them for the hotel when we go in October.

She is too small for the goodnights - she still takes a 2T-3T in the pullups! I bought the smallest size to try them at one point and they went up to her shoulders, literally! She's very small.

Yeah, that is what I thought too. But we travel quite a bit and just last week had an incident on a commuter plane airplane bathroom where basically she thought she was being sucked down!!! It was very traumatic. She actually said, Mom next time I'm wearing a pullup or holding it I'm not going in one of those airplane bathrooms ever again! I think that if I just take her to the restroom before we board she can make it til we land. She's been daytime potty trained since age 2, its when she falls asleep that its another story.

Awww she's a peanut!! Oooh! Since she's a peanut, what about getting a few pairs of those thick training underwear? They're like cloth diaper material, really really thick... but not scratchy or swishy sounding and very soft and look like underwear :)

Oh good idea! Thank you :) I had no idea they even still made these!! Thank you. Yes my daughter is a tiny package with a huge personality :)

This is what I was going to suggest. My dad had some of these after a major surgery and they are super absorbant. You could just toss the pad into a washing machine if she had an accident.

I vote for this plan too! When my DD was 4 she was fully trained, but wet the bed at DW. Like you said -busy days make deep sleep. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst. ;)

Hi, we had the same problem with my son when he was 5. Unfortunately, we had a bedwetting accident at Disney. I have to say that Mousekeeping was awesome. They not only changed out the sheets but also changed out the mattress and didn't seem to concerned about it. Hey, it's Disney and I'm sure it happens more often than not. We just left a nice Mousekeeping tip and convinced our son that since we were at Disney and he was so tired maybe Good Nights were ok for the vaca. As soon as we got home, he totally understood that we were back in our regular routine and went back to underwear. Enjoy your trip!

Not trying to hijack, but here it goes.... :hippie:

I have a question about the Gerber Training Pants from the link. We are currently in the midst of potty training our almost 3yr old. He is totally trained for #2 :cheer2:, but still wears pull-ups for the other. These training pants -- do you just use them as underwear? Nothing additional underneath? I really thought about switching to cloth diapers/traditional trainers at potty training time, but I could never find any clear, concise how-to's..... Thanks for any help. :flower3:

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.... :wizard:

He is poop potty trained but not pee trained?

I used them as underwear, nothing underneath but the first few days I had dd wear rubber pants over them (to protect my furniture) But she was an easy potty trainer. They are basically really, really thick underwear and if there's a huge amount of pee it WILL get thru to their clothes. Thing is when they pee it's uncomfortable for them because they can feel it, unlike (some) pull ups. Plus I didn't want to waste money on the pull ups kwim?

He is totally poopy trained! (Well, for a couple of months now with no accidents!) I know - generally it is the other way around, but I certainly prefer wet pullups to dirty ones!

DS could stay wet all day so I was definitely looking for something that would help him realize that he is wet and that being wet is not comfortable! I may have to invest in these....
