Worried about August dates

Hello you Disneyland experts:

I spontaneously booked airfare to take my two oldest daughter to Disneyland - arriving August 23rd and leaving August 27th. After reading that the blackouts on local passes would be lifted at around that time, I started to get worried about crowds. If I book TODAY, I can change the dates and still take advantage of the fare sale on Southwest.

Should we go the following week? Some other possible dates are:

August 29th to September 3rd OR
August 27 to September 1st.

I would love any input you may have...

We have going in August for many years and made the mistake a couple of years ago to be there just as the passes came unblocked and all I can say is we will never do that again. Also with the new rides this year I(my opinion) the crowds will be even larger as the locals hit the parks prior to school starting.

It is also the week after D23 convention, and many of those folks are staying on to tour the parks the following week.

Not me, I am coming in before D23, during the blocked out AP days.

This is similar for me, to the Free Food times at WDW, I hate going during the free food weeks, even though they choose the times that are supposed to be lower in attendance. It is just too annoying to me to deal with, restuarants packed, long lines for snacks, confusion at the walk up food locations-guests asking the cashiers to explain the program, etc. I'll take a busier time, with the parks opened more hours, but that is just me!

We have gone during peak times, so we are not afraid of crowds, but we will NOT go the week the blockouts are lifted ever again. We learned that the hard way a few years ago.

I don't know when it slows down in September, but we went at the end of September one year and it was fantastic.

We just bought Deluxe annual passes before the price increase and are planning to go August 21-25 because we thought it would be less crowded.
You have me convinced that we should go instead the week before August 14-18.
We got a good deal on our hotel (Fairfield Inn) but it looks like the rooms are going for $30 more a night now. We might have to find a different hotel, but it sounds like it might be worth it.

We all are just guessing what may happen, you just never know. Going to have to see what shakes out. Hope everyone has a great time.

Jack
