Hi.

DW and I are planning to book a vacation in Aug. 2006 from the World Passport Collection. Here are our choices in order.

1. Ko'olina resort in Oahu
2. Marriott's Maui Ocean Club

Anyone have any advice on which one we would have better luck in booking for a week stay in a one bedroom? Wanted to try booking no later than next week.
Has anyone stayed at the Marriott's Maui Ocean Club?

I don't know how lucky you will be getting into Hawaii. Five year ago, I stayed at the Maui Marriott and it was great. Nice rooms, great pool and beach. I would highly recommend it. Better than Maui is Kauai. It is a much prettier Island and much less commercial.

I would say you might be a little late looking for Hawaii at less than a year out. The best way to get a Hawaii exchange is to be VERY open ended about time and resort. You might be best off trying to do a direct exchange with an owner of the resort you are most interested in.

I don't know anything about the World Passport Collection but KoOlina resort is the best! I just love the little man made coves there.

If you are certain about those two resorts and want to try through II, I would start a search for those two resorts and leave the timeframe open. It will be a "take what you can get" situation.

Your chances for getting Ko'Olina are better than Maui. Ko'Olina is newer and is does not have as many owners as Maui. Even as a MVC owner, Maui is a very tough trade.

Just an FYI.

I am currently on the the waitlist for those two resorts plus about 4 more for August 2006. I have been on the list for Ko'olina for about 7 months. I just added the Maui resorts about a month ago. I do have a back-up plan if that one doesn't come through.

I would get on a waitlist as soon as possible. I also wish you good luck. Because if they get to you, that means they have gotten to me. :)

See you in Hawaii next August.

You might be able to score the Kona Coast resort on the Big Island, which tends to be more readily available. It's a nice place, although you have to walk across a golf course to get to the beach. But the Big Island is much different from Kauai and Maui--rockier, more rugged and volcanic. Our family likes it better because it's more adventurous and less beachy, but you might feel differently.

It's worth adding that sometimes the Kona Coast is so easy to score that you should not add it to your list unless you're willing to accept it.

I traded into the Marriott Ko-Olina Resort in September 2004. Don't recall all the details, but was on a wait list for a while and took a smaller room than I would have preferred just to be sure I would make an exchange. Room was larger than a studio, had a refrig/microwave/sink area. Very nice accommodations equivalent to DVC. Only draw back? Located on the west coast of Oahu approx. 20 miles from Honolulu. Also visited the Big Island (stayed at the Manua Lani Resort).

Probably was fortunate to be able to make the exchange. In retrospect, I would hold out for larger room and/or sell points for cash and booked something nearer to Wakiki Beach.

Those will both be tough to impossible a full year out for much of the year, even worse if you want a 2 BR or search short notice (like less than a year). But no harm in trying.

How does everybody book their Hawaii travel? I've been pricing packages for DH and I for next fall. I was on Travelocity and found a packge for $2,500. This includes our round-trip airfare from Philadelphia, PA to Maui and 7 nights at the Outrigger Maui Eldorado (does anyone have any comments on this resort?) I've been hitting every travel website that I can think of but this is our first trip to Maui so I'm just looking to see if there are any sites that I missed. I've tried Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia, AAA, and all of the airline sites that I could think of. So far Travelocity is pricing at the lowest.

We just recently got back from Hawaii. We stayed at the Hale Koa on Waikiki Beach. It was awesome. Our room overlooked the beach and each morning we woke up to such beautiful sites. It is right next door to the Hilton. That in itself is beautiful. The hotel was within walking distance to almost everything we wanted to see each day.

We were lucky to have someone that lives there to make ressies for us and there was no problem whatsoever. Our ressies were made only about 4 months out and it worked out well.

I've never been, but it's getting some pretty good reviews on a popular trip advisor website.

Just returned from 5 nights at the Marriot Maui Ocean Club (Oct 29th).

It is a wonderful resort that is still in the process of being converted to timeshares for the Marriot Vacation Club.

We didn't stay on points or an exchange. I had received a card in the mail to stay 5 nights for $376 per person. The "deal" included a rental car (Hertz) and a $50 gift cert. Total cost for the room for two people was $ 752.

I figured we would get the worst room (dumpster view :) ), but we had a wonderful one-bedroom, ocean front room on the 7th floor. The unit was very much like a DVC one-bedroom except no washer/dryer, no stove, and no whirlpool. It did have two full bathrooms.

The resort was wonderful. The room was clean. Marriot did everything they promised and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

BTW...We didn't have to sit through the "timeshare" presentation as part of the deal! They did offer that to us and would have given us another $100, but we didn't feel like it since we already owned DVC.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

We just stayed at the Maui Schooner Resort on our DVC points in August. We were very happy with the resort. It only has 78 units, so it is not a large hopping place, but it was perfect for us. Very pretty views. It is ocean front in Kihei, on the south coast. You cannot swim directly where is it situated, but there are some really nice beaches down the road a little way. We got a one bedroom and didn't have any trouble booking it for the week we wanted, but we did put in for it about 15 months before we planned on going.

As an owner at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club, I would highly recommend it. We just got back yesterday, and had a great time. It is a wonderful family place, with a 3.5 acre pool, and situated right on Ka'anapali Beach (rated America's #1 beach). We spent the majority of our time in the water, with DD8 mostly in the pool, and DD13 in the pool a lot, but joining me in the ocean for snorkeling and body surfing.
In addition, the staff is wonderful. Always saying hello, and going out of their way to make sure everything is good (just like Disney).
The resort is family oriented, with activities for the kids every day.
Last sales pitch - it is easy walking to dining and shopping right on the beach, and the historic whaling town of Lahaina is a five minute drive for more shopping and dining.
But it is very difficult to get into, sometimes owners have difficulty getting the week they want. Look for a direct trade from an owner - I offered one on the DVC rental board for our studio lock-off, but nobody took me up on it (ended up renting for cash). Another place to check for direct trades is in the TUG (Timeshare Users Group) classifieds.

I waitlisted a one bedroom in Hawaii for several months next year and was offered August within a few days at Cliffs Club, Kaui. But, we decided to turn it down, and waitlist again, as August was not going to work out for us. So, if you are more flexible about where you stay, maybe something will come up. We waitlisted any resort in Maui, Kuaui, or the Big Island.

Fluffykim, we stayed at the Mauna Lani in July 2004. It was pure heaven, we had 8 nights in an ocean view experience room. Can't say enough good things about it. We snorkled every day and must have seen at least 20 turtles. We are planning to go back in July 2007. I will tell you that the food there was extremely expensive. $30 for my son (16) to eat breakfast buffet. 2 were included daily with the experience also one couples massage. We are trying to get a 1 bedroom on Kuai for a week before or after our stay at ML again. I made a request in Sept 2005 for July 2007. I have my fingers crossed!

thanks P.

We are toying with 10 days at Mauna Lani OR 7 days in Kuai through Interval Exchange and 4 days at the Mauna

Any advice?
