I was wondering,
Has anyone used the World passport collection? Is it easy to get the points converted??

I'm not a DVC member but we are going to disney in Sept and than we have a trip to Mexico planned for Jan.. the amount we are paying for both those trips is almost $6,000.00. I was thinking maybe I should apply the money to a down payment of DVC?

You could finance the points. We purchased a lot of points because we take the whole family (9 now). Wish we had bought earlier. In the seven years we've owned I think it has paid for itself, and the good news is I could sell it today for more than I paid, although I never would. We're looking forward to our Disney vacations for many many more years. :cool1:

Are those trips in your signature all with points from the DVC, I see you went to the Mayan Riveria?
I am wondering because I love Disney! But my husband wants to go on trip other places, we probably will only be at Disney every other year, I guess we could rent out points every other year too..

My husband and I are going to the Maya Riviera this year, but unfortunately it is not one of the places that we can trade into at this time. We have to pay cash, and we're banking points.

I did send DVC an email requesting that they consider adding it to our offerings because it is a very popular vacation destination. But right now, not available.

Just FYI in case that's the area of Mexico you were thinking of.

Okay thanks, That definitly was one of my questions...
thats too bad they don't have a destination there

I have been so on the fence with the DVC

DVC is always evaluating things, so hopefully they'll add it on soon! In Mexico there are plenty of places in Cancun and Cabo, as well as locations in Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco.

We only bought 150 points (the minimum at the time) because we knew that we would want to travel to other destinations. Maybe you could try a small contract and make sure it suits your needs before jumping into a large contract. :)

I understand what you're saying here. I can't remember how much we spent on lodging during the trip when we bought DVC, but I remember wishing I had used that money towards it. It was an 8-day trip and would have at least covered the down payment. But that was us and your situation might be different. Good luck with your decision! :wizard:

I looked an saw there are plenty of them in Mexico.. But none in the area I was hoping for, which is okay, we will just keep the trip we currently have.
That is what I am thinking about our trip covering the downpayment.
Although this sept we have the free dining trip so it is a really good deal,
I think I will keep those two trips as they are and try the small contract, that way we can see how it goes, Thanks for the advice ;)

Expect DVC to add the Royal Haciendas within the next year or so. There really aren't that many timeshare resorts in the area. II only has two and only the one above is 5*. RCI has a few more if I recall. There are some All Inclusive (AI) resorts with RCI. Same could be said Cozumel where II has no resorts. We don't do mandatory AI resorts as they are a rip off about 95% of the time though there are some exceptions where it might be a better deal and some that have optional meal plans that can work well for the right group. Looking through the RCI list it looks like about 70-80% and a solid 95% of the good choices are Mandatory AI for Cozumel, Playa del Carmer, Xcaret, Progresso, Riviera Maya and Puerto Aventuras. The Mayan Palace company (MP & Grand Mayan) and just a couple of others with optional AI were the only reasonable looking place I saw that wasn't listed as mandatory AI. Isla Mujeres had a couple of good looking no AI options.

One thing to note is that if one wanted to go to one of these places, it's usually fairly easy to find someone willing to do a direct exchange. While a mandatory AI might be $90 or more per person for some of these, it's often either optional or much cheaper for an owner. What I don't know is how those savings and options transfer to a "guest". And some of the ones that have optional AI are set in such a way it's not really that optional either because of the way they jack up the prices and/or the remoteness of the resort.
