Does anyone have any experience with either the Eagles Nest or the Surf Club in Marco Island?

I would love to go to Marco Island and I see that we can trade our points for these locatons.
Are they affiliated with Hilton Grand Vacation CluB?
Is one resort better than the other?
Thanks for any info.
Noreen

im sorry i cant help with your decision on which resort, we go to marco island every other year and we have always rented a condo at the apollo. we love going to marco island, the beaches are great, the restaruants are good, we bring our bikes, its a great cozy little island. we are also dvc members and have not had a chance to use our trade, im not sure if its easy, but we did check out the eagles nest and it is a nice place, i think i would perfer it over surf club, but you can do an internet search on both, and decide yourself, good luck and post back when you book it thru an exchange, would like to know if you can get it easier then maui, lol
have been on a waitlist for almost a year now, havent heard anything:teeth:

Just by looking at the outside, Eagle's Nest is much more appealing than Surf Club. Yes, these are affiliated with HGVC, so there are fewer people trading these units via II than via RCI. If you want prime season, it can be a very difficult trade, so start very early, definitely more than a year ahead. HTH. :)

I have never used my points for WP,II trade. I have used points for one or 2 night stay in concirege. I almost hate to tie up the points waiting for my ship to come in, so to speak. I also like to go to the DVC resorts.

I might be better off renting outside w/o my points as wdwstar does.
do you rent through an agency? or private individual? or a timeshare group?

You just go on the wait list, ms doesnt really take your points out of your account, im still on the waitlist for maui, in the mean time i made ressies for vero/bcv for the same dates, if my waitlist comes thru i will cancel vero/bcv if i can get good airfare, i believe ms gives you some time to decide, i want to say 48 hours or less?

i rent from a private owner at the Appollo, on the beach front, steps away from the ocean, 1 bedroom, sleeps 4 people, on the 10th floor i think only 12 floors to the building. casual restaruant/bar(happy hour, yeah !) on first floor looking out at the ocean/ also the condo has a pool, covered garage. if you need anymore info, let me know:wave2:

I am still a little confused as to how the whole thing worls w/II or any other timeshare exchange. I have never done it, other than for one or two nights, so I haven't really looked into it. I am sure it is easier once you do it.
Anyway, the Apollo sounds great. Ho far is it from the Marriott or The Eagle's Nest?

you call ms and book thru interval international (just listen to the recorded message and they will walk you thru which # to press to connect you to the right ms for ressies)

when you make your ressies for marco island (eagles nest or surf club) ms will see if their is availablity, if so you must have the required points in your account plus a fee( it use to be $75, it might be $95 now) at the time of ressies because they have the room, ms will take the points and your $$.
but remember if you cancel the ressies up to 60 days of arrival the points cannot be used at any dvc resorts, only at non disney resorts and disney cruise. and must be used within one year of cancelation of original ressies. cancel 59-14 days same as above, except ressies can only be made 59 days to 24hrs to arrival of new ressies. cancel 13-7 days out, same as above except you can only make new ressies 30days to 24hr. and cancel 6 or less days to arrival, you forfeit the week.

now if their is not available for your dates, you can go on a waitlist, ms will see if you have enough points for the ressies but will not take the points out until the dates come available,(you will get a call first and have i think 48 hrs to respond and at that point the points will be taken out. now at the time of the waitlist process i have heard ms wanted the fee $$ up front, but will not process the fee on your credit card until its available, and i have heard ms didnt need the credit card unless you get the call that your dates are available.

this process is really painless and alot easier then it sounds and ms for interval international are great and explain everything to you.
you can make ressies 2 years to 14 days out from your dates
but you can not travel within the 60 of your use year.

i think the points are 124 for studio, 160 1-bedroom, 270 2-bedroom for the week.

it depends when you want to go to marco island when paying cash to an owner. its about $1100 to $1600 for the week for a 1bedroom on the gulf, we go at easter/springbreak .

the owner will ask for a deposit, and then ask for the bal. 1 month to arrival then as soon as they receive you bal. they will insure by mail and send you the keys and info, some owners may have a contract, the one we use does not but will send a contract if you would like. i beleive check in is 3pm and check out 10 am
then when you get home you insure mail he keys back to owner.

the condo by owner has everything you would need, just bring food/clothes.

thru ms im not sure what the condo supplies you.
any other questions please post or pm

eagle nest first on collier dr. about 1/2 mile down marriot about 1 mile down from marriot apollo, apollo is very close to the end of the island, not so congested there, and being so close to the end its so beautiful to see all but ocean .:sunny:
oh, i wish i was there right now!

From what I've seen Eagles nest would be the better choice. Neither should be difficult to get for summer but both will be difficult from Xmas to Easter. You can also look for an exchange. You should know that both would be a down trade though not as much for the high season.

Thank you for all of that information. I actually understood it!

So, when you are put on a wait list can you then book using your points in a dvc resort and if the waitlist comes through you have the option to cancel DVC ressie and take the II resort and pay the fee, or decline the waitlist? (assuming you do not have enough points to accomadate both reservation options)

Dean-What exactly do you mena by "trading down"? Do you mean the resort itself is not of the same quality as a DVC resort?

yes , only if you are on a waitlist , dont forget even if you use your current points for your second ressies you also have your next year points to borrow to cover the waitlist ressies, but before ms actually takes your waitlist points, you will get a call to confirm the transaction as far as the $ fee , im not sure if you pay that up front even though your waitlisting , i did not, that is because i booked a almost a year ago, since then i have read that ms asks for the fee right away, and it is non refundable, unless ms cannot fill the ressies , but keep in mind the time frame for cancelation & yes, marco island is not an equal trade to dvc,
these condos in marco island are just that a condo with small kitchens, not luxury as the dvc resorts. i would decide where you want to stay and get a few quotes from the owners, again depends when you are going determines what you will be charged, holidays are higher then off season. sometimes its cheaper to renting your points and paying cash.:sunny

DVC does not actually make a reservation unless you accept the match so there is nothing to cancel if no II exchange is accepted. And yes, I am saying that both options will not be up to DVC standards. That may or may not be important to you depending on how set you are with the location.
