World of Warcraft

It is fun to see this thread back! :teeth:

I now have a 43 hunter named Bessey and she ROCKS! Sgt and honored in WSG at 29 and I play killer D in the BGs.

Hubby just went 60 with his hunter and his friend is a 53 priest.

We can't wait until Oct when the expansion comes out. Also, if they don't nerf priests soon, they will rule the game!

See you in Azeroth! ;)

Let's keep this thread going!

I just finished a five hour MC session. Normally we can clear the whole thing in about six, but only got as far as Shazz tonight. Didn't have enough locks for the Garr fight and wiped three times. Finally had another lock log on and we ninja-invited her into the raid. Got my Lawbringer Helm tonight. All I need now is the belt for a full set :)

I got my Tauren Hunter to 58 this morning and hope to get him to 60 by next weekend. He's on Khadgar with my other toons but I'm thinking about transfering him to Runetotem to play with a friend over there.

Tomorrow is Onyxia and possibly will finish MC for this week :)

Hunters are sweet! I used to do WSG all the time with my hunter, they really do kick butt on Defense, especially since u can track where humans and even stealthed rogues and druids.

Last night I got to lvl 31 woohoo! I'm starting up STV now... so that should keep me busy for a while!

I hope I actually play this character up to 60, I'm excited to do large instance runs. The highest instance I've done is uldamann =(
I should make it...I really enjoy druids alot, its fairly easy to find groups for lower level instances (everyone needs a healer) and being a healer/dps I'm able to solo and level up really easily!

I think tonight I'll try to do STV and keep an eye out for a group goin to RFK.

We must look like real nerds to everyone else on the boards :lmao:

Can I go a wee bit OT?

I have a son who plays this game. Used to play Starcraft, now this. 3 other boys on the street play it. He is completely addicted and would play every waking minute if he could. I took his privledges away once (grades) and I thought he was going to explode. I liken it to withdrawl from uppers.

If I come in the room, he cuts the volume IMMEDIATELY. Now, my DH swears like a sailor, so what are they saying he fears I will be upset about????

I've heard that this game is like Dungeons & Dragons when I was a kid. I don't buy that kids will start killing others or themselves because of games...but the kids who played D&D when I was young WERE strange kids.

I'm worried about my son. This is the same kid who is doing poorly in school.

The fact that his friends play, too makes me think all isn't lost. But I REALLY worry about him and this stupid game.

Tell me he isn't doomed!

My brother was/is the same way. I am too but I have some self control :p. I also didn't start playing until I was 22, so that may have something to do with it... I was also working a full time job, so I was paying my own way into the game.

It is hard to manage someone elses addiction and I agree it is a game that creates that dopamine release? something linked to having fun and a sense of satisfaction at the same time.

AS for the types of people..... this game is played by kids - adults and its just not for the uber-geek anymore. I consider myself fairly normal...the people that know me would say that... I think LoL. Actualy most people at work prbably woudn't believe I play this game, or know what it is. The main portion playing are probably young adult males, so I'm sure you can assume what may be said within the game. It might just be a privacy thing that kids can have, or maybe its just instinct to turn it down when you come in the room.. maybe he would be embarrased by you hearing what might be being said by his guildmates...

The only thing I can think that may help is either he needs to pay his own way to the game or you could use pre-paid game cards from the store. You mentioned grades, so maybe you could work something out with the grades thing... where you let him earn "game" money through good performance in school... it could be done by the month, or there are prepaid game cards for 60 days at a time. With the cards, if he doesn't do well then you can opt not to buy the next 60 day card for X number of days or months. If he learns that grades are important in being able to play then maybe he'll be able to learn to control himself better.

I have no clue if that plan will work, but its the best idea I have. I know of a lot of people who are incredibly addicted to this game, and other online games like it. I wonder how many have a real addiction problem, and how many are able to control themselves enough to function in life. I'm happy I have that ability to stop before it gets too late at night... I know that I need to be functional and coherent at work every day.

Some ppl... especially kids don't always have the ability, or self control. And its hard to control computer play...its not like a nintendo where u can just take it away...usually kids and the family still need to use the computer on a semi daily basis.

I wish you Good luck!

Easily! You should be able to gain ten levels in STV without breaking a sweat.

The highest instance I've done is uldamann
I hate Uldaman with a passion. I never finshed it as a lower level, and have never taken any of my alts in there. I've helped a few people in there as a 60, but the thought of that place makes me shudder. Gnomeregan isn't far behind on the list of places I would rather not go, but I make trips there about once a month to farm for Fused Wiring to make repair bots for my guild.

I would honestly worry a little. You know your kid better than anyone, so don't feel silly for worrying about a little video game addiction. There was a study a couple years back that showed video game addiction having the same effect on the parts of the brain (I dunno, addiction receptors? :confused3 ) that drugs do. It can become a real, physical addiction. We played EverQuest, the mother of all addictive games, for nearly five years. I watched people's lives get turned upside down because of it. I heard stories of people leaving their kids neglected and a few of them actually died. There was one person (can't remember the details) that killed themself over something that happened with their "in-game" significant other.
World of Warcraft is a bit of a different game. It lacks the "urgency" that EverQuest had. There's not as much pressure to stay logged on all the time.

Make sure he's getting out of the house. Everything in moderation, you know? Think of it like junk food, or beer. Enjoyable in small amounts but everyday, all day will kill you.

That being said, everyone in my house plays the game, including my three kids. Even the youngest loves it (she's almost 8) but we limit her time and have the bad word filter on. :smooth: With all its bads, I still think it's slightly better than laying on the couch and drooling at the television.

Just don't let this happen -

Know it is wrong to laugh at folks with mental illnesses, especially children, but couldn't help it!!!! Had to share with DH - laughed, too. Especially at the end where he's going to shoot them with assault rifles! :lmao: Thanks for the laugh!

Feel MUCH better about DS. Still wish he didn't like it so much. But if he grows up to be nice like you folks (and he is a really nice young man, even if he is my lazy one) I guess it'll be OK. He's only 15. There's lots of time. :)

Cool-Beans,

I would imagine that he turns the sound down immediately because he's probably on either a Teamspeak or Ventrilo server, and the others on there are "cussing like a sailor", so to speak. Kids get a little (well ... a *lot*) out of control when they lack proper adult supervision. I would certainly keep an eye on his behavior, especially if his grades are suffering because of the game. I could see that happening very easily.
