"The World of Disney locations in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort and in the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort will undergo some enhancements beginning sometime in the middle of February. Both locations will undergo a reimagining in order to make the stores into a “distinctly Disney retail environment.”

Guests will be able to shop during the construction as it will be completed in phases."

FYI-the construction impacts are going to suck in Feb/March. They are trying to do phased construction, but they will need to keep certain paths open for safety, so various construction tunnels are going to be in the store. It will also be closed completely occasionally, including I believe a 2-week closure, to transition from one half to the other (though that phase could get changed). Expect some evening noise occasionally especially if you are staying at GCH above the store.

As for the changes, more wood paneling and “classier”. Imagine the room refurbs for the resorts at WDW, where they brought things more up to date, but, in my opinion, removed a lot of Disney. So also expect the same criticism...

So in an effort to make it more "distinctly Disney" they're going to remove a lot of Disney?

Yup. It seems whoever is in charge of theming for the Disney Parks division has a different concept of what amount of Disney needs to be shown.
