World of Color Superthread

For the life of me, I cannot understand WHY they didn't just build an amphitheater with aluminum benches like at WDW for Fantasmic. It didn't need to be as big, but they could have CERTAINLY just built graduated concrete steps in that space, even without benches! People could sit on the concrete. We have something similar at a local park for special events, for goodness sake. I think the area at our park can hold more than 4,000...and EVERYONE can see what's going on down below.

I don't really understand why this had to be made into a "park" with lights, benches, and shrubbery. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I am so angry that I can't even take my kids (4 and 6) to see this because they are too big for me to hold them (I'm only 5'2") and too small to see on their own.

I wondered the same thing when I was watching the last ELP on the last tier. Why didn't they put seats in when they rebuild the park? BUT as my DH pointed out the lagoon wasn't built originally with WOC in mind. AND WOC was positioned to use the lagoon to the fullest which meant that the Paradise Park itself is not DIRECTLY facing the show but actually a little to the right.

Right now, I think the best place for families with small children and if you are short is the bridge and the viewing right below it. It's a smaller area, we were guessing that 4 deep at the most and maybe less if you have a stroller.

So, how do we get this area? Is this FP, Dining, or picnic area?

ETA: moved my 6pm AG to 5pm. Just feel better about moving up the time. Hopefully we'll be able to go do something in between dinner and waiting for the show. Spending 4+ hours prior to seeing a 1/2 hour show seems a bit excessive! LOL! Plus, since it's just 2 of us, any potty trips are a nightmare -- really impossible as we'd lose our spot.

At a minimum they should have a" sitting on the ground" section like Fantasmic has - so people can get kids to see it. When everyone has to stand then such problems turn up. I am a bit surprised they did not figure this out beforehand. They have done Fantasmic for 20 years at DL and know about these issues. I can only speculate that once they get enough complaints from people in your situation they will come up with alternatives.

I agree, Trey. I don't know how they didn't anticipate this! When I first heard about WOC, I figured they would build a DHS-style ampitheater. :confused3 I see why you say it might not have been feasible given the walkway issue. I mean who in Imagineering didn't realize that 8 year olds weren't going to be able to see the show behind 3 rows of standing adults?!

However, I think the only way to make it so everyone can see is to allow sitting. They could still bring in sections at a time like they are now, so as to eliminate camping out. AND everyone could see!

Are you listening, Disney???

Wondering what time we should get in line for the late showing. We're doing one of the dining packages. Any help would be appreciated.

I think they have had ample opportunity to change the perferred seating at "F" and they have not. They keeping tweaking things, so one can hope.

So, if we have the picnic fast passes, will we still not have a very good viewing area? How do we go about getting by a railing? Get there super early for our fast pass time?

I wonder if being almost 5'7" falls into the "too short to see everything" category or not.

Has Fantasmic at Disneyland had the same viewing setup the entire 18 years it's been running? Or have they changed things? I've never actually watched the entire show.

I know that at some point, they completely redid the Fantasmic! area so it was gently sloped; previously it had been more flat. I think they may have removed some trees as well? I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up having to slope Paradise Park as well, but obviously they can't do that until they take the show down for a while.

It is too bad that they didn't plan out how everyone could view World of Color from the getgo, though, as they built this area FOR World of Color (versus Fantasmic!, where they built it into an existing area).

To me it sounds like unless you're over 6', you'd probably be better off getting against a railing or rope... :confused3

That's the picnic area.

The bridge was also the location for orange group FPs distributed at GRR.

After doing the Ariel's Grotto package for the first show on Friday (and seeing the show in the blue zone), I tried the FP on Saturday for the 10:15 show. The FP instructions were to meet between 9-9:30 at Ariel's Grotto. I checked the queue at about 8:30 and no one was there yet, so I got a snack and came back at 8:45 and was second in line. The first part of the orange queue goes all the way across the bridge and into a small area that is 10 feet or so above the next level down on the left side of the main viewing area. Since I was front of line I had a spot at the railing with a view unobstructed by humans. Some of the equipment towers were in my line of sight, but this area was high enough to even see over people holding up their cameras at arm's length. The rest of the queue either fills in that area or the bridge viewing.

The blue zone was better in that there were no equipment towers or other distractions in our line of sight, and was more show immersive because it was both more central and closer to the show. The fountains in the blue viewing area rained on us vigorously but briefly during the lion king segment. I don't know if this will happen every time, or was just a function of wind conditions at the time.

Appreciating all the feedback, so far it doesn't sound like anyone gets trampled on like at Fantasmic...:crowded:

Looking forward to more TR's :surfweb: and all the hardwork people are doing udating the thread..:grouphug:

We made ressie's at Ariel's Grotto for July, and it's still there:worship:
Thanks again everyone!

Looking forward to hearing from more Guinea Pigs! I read an awful review of WCT dinner and wondering if I should see about if it's possible to switch to Ariel's!

I already switched mine to AG. I don't like that WCT seems to have eliminated the appetizer. The CM I spoke to yesterday when I called to make the change wasn't aware of it but then confirmed it with a manager. He also said that the menu they see changed from Sat to Sun and confirms no appetizer, only salad. Our expectation for the food has dropped to mediocre so I would rather be at AG with the undersea theming.

Are the dinner choices for AG WOC package the same as what you get if you go to a character meal? If so, it might mean AG will be a little more stable if they are just doing what they always do. I've never been to a princess meal but I thought it looked the same.

It appear to be the same..I just looked to make sure the tri-tip was on the menu..yummy!

We have AG ressies for 5:30 on the 23rd. So my question is what time should we get to the viewing area and where exactly do we go again? I have read lots of these reviews but I am a little confused since I haven't been there since they got this all opened up and I am not sure I understand where to go. Also does anyone know what the kids eat at AG? I am assuming the kids don't eat the entrees the adults do??? Do they have a kids menu? My kids are actually pretty good eaters and prob WOULD eat the adult stuff but I figured they wouldn't expect most kids to eat that.

My mom is freaking out too cuz she can't sit on concrete for a long time OR stand so she is thinking she is going to have to sit it out. Do you think if we get there early enough there is a wall or someplace she could lean against or sit on till the show starts. She is close to 70 and has bad knees. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are not doing a princess meal at Ariel's then I would definitely recommend them over WCT...although for the sake of getting a good spot, I would make sure to do Ariel's before 6 PM if you're going for the first show. Hopefully WCT will get its act together but right now you're paying more for notably slow service and food that's mixed at best.

The reason we picked WCT was because we had a lunch at Ariel's scheduled for the following day and there's only one thing on the menu that I wanted at Ariel's, so I didn't want to eat it two days in a row! I would not want to go to WCT for the first show unless I had a seating before 5 PM.

kelmac284, WE had no trouble finding our spot based on CMs' instructions, arriving about 7:20, but it sounds like we are the exception. :(

There is not much in the way of leaning space, to my recollection; I can't say if there was NONE or not, but we were in the center and there was no wall to lean against where we were. I believe there are stairs she can sit on, but that probably wouldn't help.... I'm not sure if they allow them, but maybe she could carry one of those canes with a fold-down seat built in? Or you could definitely rent a wheelchair (I think it's awful that you'd have to consider that just to endure the wait, though).

Or your mother could definitely stay back until 8:15 (for the first show) and you could save her a spot--it might be some trouble to get her through the crowd but she might be OK.

Anyway, I didn't see any particular spot that would be good for your mother. Maybe someone else has some better ideas?

Thanks Eva. I am hoping that she can manage some how. I would hate for her to miss it as I know she would enjoy the show and we specifically bought the dinning hoping that that would somehow help us out a bit but I am not sure if it will work or not. I told her she prob SHOULD get a wheelchair if she doesn't think she can stand for an hour! I personally think she could do it but she tends to overreact. So I guess we will just have to wait and see how it plays out. Thanks for the info! :)

Just updated my RESV at Tatorria for the 1st of July. Orignialy had for a 7:10pm and seening the 2nd show, but when I herd there only doing the pre-show during the frist showing I call and try to change It today. It took me 15min to get through:scared1:, and was able to get the frist showing:cool1:.

We just switched to AG at 5:20pm next Friday. Got outdoor seating which will be nice to people watch. That should let us head over by 7:15pm or so to get in line. We will need HA seating for my DS.

If AG is better than WCT...WCT must really be bad! :scared1: The last couple of times we ate at AG the food and service were really bad.

I'm wondering if the picnic is the way to go for preferred viewing of WOC.
